Position Summary Rewarding career opportunity for a Psychiatrist for our Traumatic Stress Injury & Concurrent Program. This program is delivered in the Homewood Health Centre, in a collaborative manner, with an interdisciplinary team which includes psychology, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, horticulture therapy and addiction services support. In this role you will be responsible for clinical psychiatric care of patients as they develop their unique abilities to attain the highest level of functioning. This is a full-time position and can be either Salaried or Incorporated. We can also explore a locum as an option. What you'll be doing • Clinically responsible for assigned patients including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, daily care, and discharge • Clinical care includes diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, concurrent substance use disorders, including medication management, withdrawal management, and psychotherapeutic interventions • Provide ongoing supervision and management of clinical/patient care including daily rounds and sufficient individual assessments with the patient to ensure ongoing standards of patient care are met • Complete documentation including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes and finally, a comprehensive discharge summary of the highest quality to ensure the medical record is meaningful and useful and a treatment plan can be established by the team • Utilize computer medical administration such as EMAR, CPOE, EMR processes • Provide clinical guidance to the program and to the admitting department for appropriate and timely referrals and admissions • Ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained • Facilitate group psychotherapy modalities appropriate to program • Provide clinical direction to program development • Perform ECT treatment as required • Participate in hospital committees/forums, medical staff meetings and quality assurance activities • Supervise and mentor students and residents and support departmental research activities • Provide clinical support in the training of allied Health Care Professionals • Support colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences • Communicate directly with referral sources, where necessary • Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely manner What we're looking for • A specialist certification in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS) (C) or equivalent body acceptable to the RCPS (C) and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario • 3 years' physician experience in a similar role preferred • Experience with diagnosis and management of concurrent substance use disorders is preferred • Interest to work with complex and comorbid disorders as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient care • Adept at creating an environment that supports team spirit and collaboration across the organization • Inspire others to be accountable through action, decisions and/or communication • Strong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients, patients, customers • Exceptional leadership and executive presence with strong business acumen • Demonstrated ability to think and act with strategic and tactical agility as well as effectively lead strategic and operational changes • Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis and complex problem solving skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Highly developed organizational and time-management skills • Catalyst to help the organization contribute to the communities • Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital • Experience with Cognitive Processing Therapy is an asset Why work with us Homewood Health is Canada's largest and leading service provider for medically focused, evidence-based treatment of mental health and addiction disorders.
