Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Junior Engineer, Scientist, or Technologist to join our team in Victoria, British Columbia. Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine, and environmental services.Our environmental team in BC is looking for a new teammate on Vancouver Island, specifically a motivated Environmental Engineer/Scientist/Technologist with a desire to work in the contaminated sites industry.Responsibilities Carrying out field programs including drilling, remedial excavations, groundwater monitoring and sampling, hydrogeological testing, and soil vapour sampling;Coordinating environmental investigation and remediation projects;Assisting in the preparation of site investigation and remediation reports, including summarizing environmental data in a clear and concise manner; and,Taking initiative to develop your skills that align with your career goals, your areas of expertise, and interests. Qualifications and Assets (modify to suit position) Completion of a post-secondary program (degree or diploma) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Geoscience, Agrology or a related field;Registration (or eligible for registration) with EGBC, BCIA, CAB, ASTTBC, or similar professional body;One to two years experience working in contaminated sites, specifically field work including drilling and logging soil, collecting soil samples, collecting groundwater and soil vapour samples;Knowledge and familiarity with the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and/or the federal Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment an asset;Knowledge and skilled at using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.;Demonstratable experience in working on multiple projects efficiently;Technical writing skills;Familiarity with data tabulation software Esdat is an asset;Clear communication, interpersonal, and strong organizational skills;Attention to detail is highly desired;A commitment to working safely and promoting safety in a safety-first culture;Highly motivated with an ability to work both independently and in a team environment; andA valid Class 5 driver’s license. We are seeking an individual with one to two years experience, but consideration may be given to the right candidate with less experience.Base Salary Range $60,000 – $76,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
