Reporting to the Regional Director, Human Resources - WGTA, the Manager, Human Resources is a hands-on manager who provides guidance, direction and support on matters related to Human Resources Policies & Procedures and best practices, including but not limited to: Recruitment, Performance Management, Workforce Planning, Legal and Compliance, Health, Safety & Wellness, Employee & Labour Relations, Employee Engagement & Retention, Rewards & Recognition, Respectful Workplace & Diversity, and Organizational Development & Training. You will act with considerable independence, discretion, judgment and initiative in providing timely and accurate information and advice on policies, procedures, administrative and operational issues.

Duties and responsibilities for our next Manager, Human Resources will include:

  • Managing a full cycle human resources service and implementing HR strategic plans as directed
  • Responsibility for ensuring that the Human Resources activities are consistent with Great Canadian policies and with applicable regulations, laws and statutes
  • Reviewing, developing, monitoring, implementing and improving internal human resources processes and systems to support departments and their operations in an effective and efficient manner
  • Facilitating coaching sessions, providing input and advice in conflict resolution, performance and attendance management; participating in workplace investigations
  • Assisting and supporting management in interpretation of various policies and procedures and escalated issues
  • Providing advice and direction in all areas contributing to employee relations, labour relations and employee engagement
  • Responding to questions from employees and management and provides advice on workplace issues; promoting cooperation and teamwork and assisting in conflict resolution
  • Representing management in collective bargaining or arbitrations as required
  • Working as part of a team to revise and update operating procedures, training manuals and policies and procedures
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of various training programs
  • Overseeing compliance, audits and training
  • Providing direction and coaching to the HR team
  • Performing other duties as required

  • Minimum of 3 years of HR management experience, or minimum of 5 years of experience in a Senior HR Generalist role supplemented by a university degree or diploma in a relevant discipline and experience working in a union environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Designation as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is preferred
  • Ability to exceed internal and external guest expectations through leading by example and by providing timely, effective and service oriented support and service to operation managers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; mediation and conflict management/resolution experience is required
  • Proven ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, interpret data and determine implications, provide recommendations, and effectively resolve
  • Proven track-record of responsiveness and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
