Ref# 24NON040 1 ‑ Full Time ‑ Clinical NurseSpecialist Renal Program Staffing The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will report to the Director ofNursing Practice & CNE with a matrix report to the Director Regional Renal Program & Clinical Services. The CNSis responsible and accountable for their own nursing practice and primarily responsible for nursing education andprofessional standard of practice within the Regional Renal Program. TBRHSC is an academic health sciences centre thatprovides care within a Patient and Family Centred model. The CNS will lead education and provide expert clinicalconsultation to enhance clinical practice specific to the renal patient population that contributes to the improvement of patientoutcomes. Core competencies of the CNS role encompasses: clinical care, system leadership, advancement ofnursing practice and evaluation and research. The percentage of time dedicated to each of the competencies will varybased on the program priorities and strategic directions. The CNS works within the conceptual foundation ofPatient and Family Centred Care and Inter Professional Practice. The CNS possesses expert skill and advancedlevel of clinical competence in the management of the renal patient population. The CNS advances ourstandard of care by assisting clinical staff to maintain their competence and support their professionaldevelopment. Thus, helping clinical staff provide safe, skilled and effective care to their patients, in accordance withProfessional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and manage their professional development. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Key Responsibilities: * Addresses clinical issues and program/service priorities byparticipating in or directing clinical practice, research, education, consultation and collaboration, support of systems,publication, and professional leadership * Provide leadership and direction related to nursing practice,standards, program development and evaluation, quality, and research * Demonstrates expert skill and advanced level of clinicalcompetence in patient management by providing indirect consultation or direct patient consultation in complex clinicalcases or coaching of a novice staff Qualifications: * Unencumbered College of Nurses of Ontario registration as aRegistered Nurse (RN) * Masters of Science in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree inNursing and must register to an approved accredited masters program within one year of hire * Minimum five years of recent renal clinical nursing experience * Advanced leadership skills * Membership in RNAO and related professional associations ispreferred * Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills * Knowledge of computer systems; word processing; e mailapplications; Internet; presentation * Ability to take initiative; work independently and as a memberof the healthcare team * Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations * Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment * Demonstrates effective conceptual, organizational,interpersonal, critical thinking/problem solving, and decision making skills * Ability to plan, manage, and implement change effectively * Ability to foster interpersonal relationships including effectivenegotiation and conflict resolution * Demonstrates effective group facilitation skills * Ability to teach at individual and group level * Proven coaching skills, evaluating the development of staff andproviding appropriate feedback * Knowledge of data collection, use of databases, data analysis,and evaluation methodology * Knowledge of research process, literature appraisal andapplication of evidence based knowledge into practice Salary Range: $51.733 to 60.864 The Health Sciences Centre strives to ensure the safety andsecurity of the patients, visitors, employees and assets financial and otherwise.
