Summary Reporting to the Resident Care Manager, under the supervision of the Nurse, the Resident Care Aide (RCA) performs routine functions involved in the provision of daily care to residents of the long term Care Centre.Shift: 6:00am-2:00pm, 2:00pm-10:00pm, 10:00pm-6:00amKey ResponsibilitiesProvides personal care to residents such as assistance with bathing, toileting, care of skin, hair, nails and mouths, dressing and other activities of daily living.Assists residents to and from the dining room in accordance with scheduled meal times. Ensures residents receive adequate nutrition according to individual care plans by feeding, distributing meal trays and supplements, noting changes in appetites and food preferences and reporting to the nurses.Assists with social and activity programs, as needed, including daily exercise, accompanying residents on excursions. Performs light housekeeping duties to ensure residents’ common areas, rooms , supply and storage areas are kept clean and uncluttered..Understands and responds to emergency procedures, with knowledge of evacuation techniques.Answers resident’s calls promptly and responds to requests for assistance from residents.Uses good body mechanics and proper lifting techniques. Lifts and transfers, porters / ambulates residents in a manner which promotes safety and comfort.Observes and reports any changes in a resident’s functional and cognitive behavior to the nurse on duty.Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of residents.Promotes and assists residents to participate in social, spiritual and recreational activities.Ensures equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner.Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the designated supervisor.Ensures that proper security procedures are followed in the handling and storage of any confidential material.Attends staff in service and continuing education programs and approved work related conferences and seminars.Serves on committees and attends meetings as required.Participates in multi-disciplinary care planning when requested.Maintains a current knowledge of and complies with all policies and procedures.Education & ExperienceResidential Care Aide Certificate from a reputable / accredited school requiredPreferred minimum 2 years of long term care or assisted living experienceMust be registered with the BC Care Aide Registry (proof required)Food Safe & WHMIS Certificates an assetBasic First Aid recommendedRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writingPhysically and mentally able to carry out the duties of the position under minimum supervisionAbility to organize workAbility to safely operate mechanical lifts and other related equipmentPerksTeam Building Events throughout the yearBria Summer Family BBQ & Bria Holiday PartyClub 16 / She’s Fit Gym Corporate Discount RatePNE / Playland Company Discount CodeSun Run & BMO Marathon Company sponsoredPerkopolisFree Onsite annual Flu-ShotBria Communities Gives Back!Our mission is to work together to create safe and vibrant communities where choices are valued, and seniors live active and purposeful lives.
