System administrators (or sysadmin or systems administrator) are responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and servers.

A System Administrator, also called a Network Administrator, takes care of computer systems and networks. Their duties include maintaining websites, monitoring and optimizing connectivity and installing server hardware and software.

What does a System Administrator do?

A System Administrator supervises the operation of a computer network for an organization and makes sure that servers function properly, allowing customers and employees to communicate with each other, coordinate their actions and take care of essential tasks. System Administrators work in a variety of industries, so a System Administrator’s day-to-day activities often vary, from helping new users get started to looking for threats or errors on the local network to upgrading software.

The system administrator is responsible for following things : User administration (setup and maintaining account)

Maintaining system

Verify that peripherals are working properly

Quickly arrange repair for hardware in occasion of hardware failure

Monitor system performance

Create file systems

Install software using tools such as apt command/apt-get command, dnf command/yum command, zypper command, apk commandand others.

Patching firmware and software

Create a backup and recover policy (disaster recovery [DR])

Monitor network communication

Educational Qualifications

After opting for system administration as your career path, it is essential that you select a relevant bachelor’s degree. The basic requirement is a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information system management, information technologyor other related field. Other degree programs with an emphasis on hardware, computer networks, and system administration are also acceptable.

Job Type : Seasonal Contract length: 7 months

Salary : $50.55-$57.83 per hour

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call
  • Overtime
