OverviewThe Plant Operator at the Rip Rap Portable plant, performs a combination of tasks ranging from organizing and helping with housekeeping activities, operation of fixed and mobile equipment used in the production of aggregates as well as routine maintenance, and repairs. The Plant operators will also be required to communicate and work closely with the Manager on inventory of processed materials as well as parts, PPE, hardware, and maintenance involved with keeping the plant running efficiently. Competitive wages with experience, and a good benefit and pension plan after 3 months. This position will require 12 hour shifts from 6am-6pm (Monday-Thursday) and Friday 6am-4pm with the potential of longer hours and some weekends when needed. The plant moves from site to site within our southwest and GTA Ontario Lafarge plants which range from a number of sites. Responsibilities Safety: Promote safety culture through engagement with employees, JHSC, subcontractors and suppliers, implementation and maintenance of local and regional initiatives with an objective of “zero” safety incidents. Promotes safety policies, processes and review procedures to ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Ensure that the plant and surrounding site is kept safe, presentable, and functional. Understanding Near Miss and HI process, MVA’s, FA’s, MI’s, LTI’s, Daily Safety Huddles, Risk Assessments, Confined Space and WAH permits Equipment: Operate heavy equipment including excavator (with hammer attachment and bucket) and wheel loader for long periods of the shift to process material for the crusher and feed the crusher. Complete and assign cleanup assignments using a skid steer and/or hand-held tools; working safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment. Perform pre-operational checks and operate assigned mobile equipment as trained and directed. Environmental Management: Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Be aware of environmentally sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area. Maintenance: Work in a team environment with other co-workers, supervisors and managers. Perform and assign daily inspections as part of our preventative maintenance program. Assist in repairing broken or malfunctioning equipment. Assist with plant repairs as needed. Work at heights when required. Other: Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the efficient operation of the plant and site. Dependability: Follow instructions, work within a team setting, respond to Supervisor’s direction and communicate it with your team. Help to ensure crushing campaigns are completed safely within the forecasted times. Help organize and execute moving the crushing plant to new locations when crushing campaigns are complete. Have a personal vehicle or other reliable transportation to be able to get yourself to site on time. Safety Profile: Comply with OHSA and all of its applicable regulations. Wear all Personal Protective equipment as required. Strict compliance with Lafarge Canada safety rules, policies and procedures. Report all incidents, near misses and safety hazards to the Supervisor. Follow Lockout/Tag out/Try out procedures. Emergency response plan awareness. Qualifications Education & Work Experience: Secondary school diploma or equivalent Industrial/Mining plant experience an asset Heavy equipment operation experience an asset Basic welding and fitting is preferred but not required. Knowledge & Skills: Specific mobile equipment training Mechanical aptitude Computer literacy an asset Good written and oral communication skills.
