As a summer student, you will be given meaningful, productive and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. Parks is hiring three student positions requiring similar skills: one in Business and Policy Planning, focused on parks policy and plan development, and two in Cultural Landscapes, focused on documenting and designating archaeological sites within Calgary Parks' land and developing policy and best practices for Parks' work within these lands.

You can expect to gain experience in a wide assortment of tasks and skills that would be both engaging and an asset to you future professional endeavors. Primary duties include: Conduct research specific to parks and open space policy, Council reports, City By-laws, and Archaeological sites in relation to City of Calgary and international policy.

Spatial analysis and mapping GIS.

Assist with presentation preparation

Document cultural landscapes sites and associated small-scale conceptual conservation design.

Participate in collaborative and/or strategic working sessions pertaining to the project.

Support the Parks Team when facilitating internaland public workshops and engagement events.

Qualifications : Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in one or more of the following areas: Land Use Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Environmental Science, Archaeology, Business Administration, Geographic Information System GIS/Applied Technologies GIS, Communications.

Other related programs of study will be considered relevance to be demonstrated by applicant.

Intermediate level of MS Office suite Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point is required.

Prior knowledge, skills or experience in the following areas would be considered an asset for this position: Core principles of Land Use Planning and/or Landscape Architecture, Environmental systems, Archaeology and associated legislation.Core principles of heritage conservation and associated legislation, Professional writing, Policy writing, Public Engagement, Geographic Information Systems GIS, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator

Strong communication skills, organisational skills, team player, attention to detail, accountability, passion for community. service will be important for the success in this role.
