The Role The role of APS 6 WHS Specialist at the Land Combat College provides important WHS subject matter expertise and policy advice to the Senior Army commanders and staff officers who reside in the organisation. There is also a technical relationship with APS 5 level WHS Advisers who reside in subordinate Army training establishments and this role will be expected to provide advice and guidance to those individuals on matters pertaining to effective WHS management and reporting. This includes regulator relationships (COMCARE) and compliance, incident reporting and notification, internal reporting (primarily through the Sentinel WHS management system), WHS incident investigations and a sound understanding of WHS trend analysis as it provides indicators of safety culture, supporting management systems and behaviors. About our Team This APS 6 WHS Specialist role resides at HQ Land Combat College and reports through to the Chief of Staff on matters related to WHS performance and compliance. This role has a technical WHS network which oversees the Army training centers such as Army Recruit Training Center as well as organizations such as the School of Infantry, School of Military Engineering and the Army Logistic Training Center. All of these organizations are high tempo where the end product are the trained soldiers and officers that make up the Army. This role assists and assures that the training is compliant with WHS regulations and delivered safely. Where unwanted WHS events and incidents occur, this role is key in providing advice and implementing appropriate improvements to ensure that our soldiers remain safe and land capability for Defense is maintained. Our Ideal Candidate The successful candidate should demonstrate a sound and practical understanding of WHS policy and procedures and how consistent, effective management systems can drive optimal safety outcomes. They need to be a good verbal communicator and possess sound expertise in the use of office-based IT systems (MS Office). A working knowledge of government policies and legislation on WHS and experience managing subordinate teams who are geographically dislocated are also desirable attributes. A desire to expand their professional qualifications and knowledge in WHS is a highly desirable attribute. #J-18808-Ljbffr
