Mid Island Co-op invites applications for the position of Director, People & Culture, to lead the HR function for our passionate and growing team!Who We AreLocated on Vancouver Island, BC, Mid Island Co-op has been in business since 1959 and was created by local citizens as an alternative way to provide themselves with goods and services. We currently have more than 70,000 members and 350 employees throughout our territory, spanning from North Cowichan to Port Hardy.What You’ll DoReporting to the CEO, the Director, People & Culture plays a pivotal role in shaping and fostering the organizational culture, as well as managing all aspects of human resources within the company. This position requires a strategic mindset, excellent leadership skills, and a deep understanding of HR practices. The Director, People and Culture will work closely with the senior leadership team to align HR initiatives with business objectives and drive employee engagement, development, and retention. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the Co-op’s overall goals and objectives. Continuously evaluate and adapt HR practices to support organizational growth and change.Oversee the recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding new employees. Develop retention strategies to ensure talent is retained and developed within the organization.Serve as a trusted advisor to management and employees on HR-related issues. Address employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances in a timely and fair manner. Promote a positive work environment and company culture.Implement and manage performance evaluation systems to drive employee productivity and development. Provide coaching and support to managers on performance feedback and improvement plans.Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and capabilities. Implement initiatives to support career development and succession planning.Oversee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with legal requirements. Regularly review and benchmark compensation levels to attract and retain top talent.Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations. Keep abreast of changes in legislation and update policies and procedures accordingly.Utilize data analytics to assess HR metrics and trends. Generate reports and insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement in HR practices.Champion the company's values and culture, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment. Organize events and activities to promote employee engagement and morale.Oversee Payroll team processing hourly, union, management as well as the Board of Directors.Provide oversight and leadership to the Health and Safety function of the organization. Who You Are:You are a proven Human Resources Leader with the ability to execute people practices across a geographically large and complex retail organization. You are a relationship builder with the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders to achieve common goals. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.Proven experience in a senior HR leadership role, preferably in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.CPHR designationAlignment with Mid Island Co-op’s values of Community, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
