Position overview The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a permanent, full-time Asset Investment Planner in the Asset Management Department, reporting to the Manager, Asset Strategy & Planning. The successful candidate will work to support the organization in driving better business and financial performance of its physical assets, including through being a key member of the multiyear state of good repair investment replacement program. This is a strategic role that requires a strong blend of financial expertise, business acumen, and communication skills. Key responsibilities include: Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders by completing asset financial planning, analysis, and support to achieve business organizational objectives, this includes meeting regularly with leaders, building trusted relationships to enable effective two-way communication, and collaborating with the stakeholders to develop reports and tools that will maximize their specific portfolio investment. Work with asset owners to develop, design and implement analysis and planning models that result in accurate multi-year (i.e., 10-year planning) cost projections of assets (OPeX and CAPeX). Support in the development of asset management plans and business cases using financial analysis, as well as other quantitative factors to evaluate investment decisions; support continuous improvement by driving financial post-mortem project reviews, improving insights from trends, forecasting approaches, or other financial indicators. Lead the budget and forecasting processes for specific LOBs related to physical assets investment planning which includes proactively signaling risks or issues impacting financial results before the risk materializes. Monitor and support LOBs in variance analysis of actuals spent on assets to determine optimal repair/replacement of major capital assets, furthermore, drive root cause analysis as well as action plans resulting from financial variances between expected, or planned performance compared to actuals of assets. Support and work with the Business, Asset, Financial leads, and all stakeholders to ensure total cost of ownership of assets are being captured - the goal of a well-rounded full picture approach. Key qualifications include: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or a related field with at least 7 years of related progressive industry experience in business partnering, financial modeling, analytics, problem solving, and effective communication. The following would be an asset, but not required: Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, Chartered Financial Analysis (CFA) and / or MBA, Certificate in Asset Management, Certificate in Risk Management. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and model out financial options and projections related to physical assets as well as translate results into effective reporting to stakeholders. Understanding of physical asset management and how this is interconnected with fiscal responsibility will be a key factor of success along with passion about data-driven discussions, data integrity and providing asset finance narrative, and finding ways to bring the aha moments and deep level of insights that influence big decisions. Possess advanced financial analysis skills, including proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting (e.g., ongoing costs to repair/operate versus payback of replacement) with the ability to analyze financial asset fiscal records (e.g., CMMS, invoices), key performance indicators (KPIs), risk registers data to provide meaningful insights and support decision-making. Proficiency in data analysis tools, such as Excel, Power BI, and Corporate Investment Planning tools for extracting insights from large datasets and the ability to interpret data and present findings in a clear and concise manner is essential for effective communication with stakeholders. This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants.
