DIRECTOR OF COMPLIANCE

Europ Assistance Canada, part of Generali Group ( is looking for a Director of Compliance to join our Legal team in Canada, who can contribute to the building of local Canadian operations.

Europ Assistance ( is a global company, active in over 200 countries and territories in the delivery of our products and services.

The Canadian business unit will strategically focus its efforts on the Travel Insurance industry with the distribution of product offerings and associated service solutions to key stakeholders for their customers traveling abroad or with in Canada.

This role will report into the Head of Legal and is based in Toronto, with the working environment being a mix of in-office and remote work, though always in close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.

Functionally, the Director of Compliance will have unfettered access and provides reports to the C.E.O., Head of Branch. The Director of Compliance will work with and liaise with other Compliance personnel across the global company.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct risk assessments on an annual basis to have an updated overview of compliance risks impacting processes and operations, to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities, and to inform the establishment and maintaining of monitoring processes and controls to proactively detect and address compliance deficiencies or irregularities.
  • Reviews and Controls: Assess the effectiveness of the control environment to mitigate compliance risks. Collaborate with other control functions. Cooperate with internal audit to facilitate compliance audits.
  • Investigations:Lead or participate in compliance investigations when issues are identified. Work with relevant departments to ensure prompt resolution.
  • Watch: Stay up to date with provincial/territorial and federal insurance laws, as well as industry-specific regulations. Interpret and communicate the impact of these regulations on the company's operations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Regulations: Acknowledge and customize Europ Assistance Group internal regulations. Ensure internal regulations are accessible to all employees and are regularly reviewed and revised as necessary.
  • and Education: Conduct training sessions for employees at all levels to promote awareness of compliance issues, regulations, and ethical conduct. Develop and deliver educational materials to foster a strong compliance culture within the organization.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular compliance reports for senior management and regulatory authorities. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to drive continuous improvement.
  • with Regulatory Authorities: Serve as the point of contact for regulatory authorities both for routine activities and during audits and examinations. Cooperate and provide requested information to demonstrate the company's compliance efforts.
  • Oversight: Promote a culture of ethics and integrity throughout the organization. Implement and oversee a robust code of conduct and ethics policy.
  • of oversight: Ensure compliance with an array of topics, including at least Insurance Distribution and Customer Protection, Data Privacy, Financial Crime (mainly International Sanction)
  • Duties: Other compliance, risk, and control duties, as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree. A law degree is an asset but not required.
  • 4-8 years of prior experience in Compliance or other Control Functions.
  • Work experience in the insurance industry is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of most relevant insurance laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • in the English language. Proficiency in the French language is highly desirable.
