JOB DESCRIPTION Lead Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVTLocation: North Vancouver, BCLynn Valley Animal Hospital is welcoming a Lead Veterinary Technologist RVT to join our team! The ideal candidate will support, lead and direct the team in a professional and kind manner while recognizing the responsibilities involved in responding to client and co-worker questions. The Lead RVT will also work closely with the hospital’s leadership team to promote a positive hospital image and continuously working towards betterment of the hospital team.ResponsibilitiesProvides direct assistance to the Veterinarian with appointments and surgeries , handling patients for procedures as necessary Performs routine procedures such as IV catheterization, setting up and administering SQF and IV fluids, anal glands, nail trims, injections and vaccines at the direction of a doctor, bandage care, microchips, post-surgery checks, suture, staple, and/or drain removalPerforms a lead role in surgery intake, prep, sedating, inducing, maintaining GA and monitoring patients closely during and after their procedure. Records observations on patients, including changes in status and pain assessmentPerforms lab procedures such as blood collection, cystocentesis, blood pressure, in house laboratory tests such as simple cytology'sPerforms dental exams, x rays and cleaningPerforms routine maintenance of equipment and maintains an appropriate inventory of medical supplies and medications Performs radiology functions including determining equipment settings, positioning and safety procedures such as quality controlMaintains hospital logs, patient records and notes with high accuracy and qualityProvides client education in areas such as nutrition, home care, administering medication, and post-operative care Follows guidelines for dispensing, preparation and storage of medicationsAssists veterinarians and clients in euthanasia procedures including explaining procedures and options for cremation and memorial keepsakesOccasionally performing emergency procedures such as: evaluating life signs; resuscitating with oxygen; establishing open airways by intubations; performing external cardiac massage; administering pharmacological agents and parental fluids; applying temporary bandages or splints; and providing external supportive treatment of wounds, burns and heat prostrationMaintains current membership registration with relevant professional body, if applicableFollows guidelines and regulations of appropriate professional body including mandatory continuing education, including clinic sponsored continuing educationParticipates in TA/VA and Client Care Specialist duties if requiredLeadership Duties and ResponsibilitiesHelps management ensure each new staff member has adequate training for their role, and provide support/coaching/mentoring and motivation to all team members. Creates an inspiring team environment with an open communication cultureRecognizes conflict within the team and attempts to resolve it in a timely manner. Submit incident reports regarding such conflict when appropriate. Brings forth any concerns to the leadership on behalf of your team.Coordinate & recruit locums, doctor specialists and oversee the booking of surgical procedures.Assists with conducting annual PAWS reviews and coach and connect sessions for team members and gather feedback from other hospital staff members.Assists Medical director with planning regular continuing education events for the team to be held in conjunction with regular meetings or social events whenever possible.Update training manuals as necessary. Revise protocols, assign responsibilities to team members and recognize inefficiencies and areas for improvement.Compensation: $ to $ per hour.
