Library Assistant (Temporary)

Position Summary

Cambrian College’s Library & Learning Commons has an immediate need for a Library Assistant on a temporary part-time, 24 hour per week basis until December 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and assistance to the students and staff using the library and its resources
  • Under the direction of the Chair, Academic Excellence, this role will assist students and staff using library resources and ensure library user protocols are respected 
  • Regular duties will include circulating and replacing material, providing library assistance to students, minor troubleshooting of equipment, and providing direction to student assistants. 

    • Qualifications

  • Minimum of a two-year postsecondary diploma (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application  *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
  • Six months to one year of practical work experience in a library with an automated library catalogue and circulation system
  • Proficient keyboarding skills, knowledge of computer software such as Word and excel, and the ability to maintain accurate records are required.
  • Self-starter and be able to function independently.
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills, with good judgement, and the ability to problem solve are essential. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required
