Ongoing training and development are part of every job, offering constant growth and skill-building potential.To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has multiple opportunities for a First Line Manager, Construction to support either the Major Component Replacement (MCR) division or Project Management & Construction (PMC) division.This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.The First Line Manager, Construction is accountable for various phases of modifications and rehabilitation work associated with a nuclear generation facility and will manage a multi- disciplined work force involved in the execution of assigned scopes of work through subordinate supervisors. This position will involve detailed planning, scheduling, estimating, organizing and control of staff, contractors, vendors and resources, for planned and forced outage circumstances, to meet scheduled completion dates and maintain control of costs. The FLM will ensure that work is performed safely, achieving quality standards and within guidelines of the corporate direction and government regulations, and will be accountable for all aspects of safety and procedural oversight. Key ResponsibilitiesManage execution of assigned project(s) utilizing Bruce Power procedures & processesDevelop, implement and maintain standards, methods and procedures governing the workProvide guidance, oversight and direction to contractors, vendors & staff, and be accountable for the quality and delivery of workCoordinate trade resource pools, have responsibility for assigned tasks to ensure resource levels meet schedule needs. Ensure resource strengths are adjusted to match down time between activities, making sure key milestone dates and deliverables are achievedCoordinate activities with other work groups to ensure continuity of workCarry out pre-job briefings. Ensure staff, contractors and vendors are conversant with all procedures, safety and work aspects, expected cost objectives, production targets, availability of equipment and tools, starting and completion dates. Ensure that work performed by staff meets drawing, specification and procedural requirements, and is carried out safelyBe accountable for all direct and indirect costs associated with assigned areas of accountability, including the provision of estimates and cost monitoringBe accountable for enforcement of standards and procedures including OHSA, Reactor Safety, Conventional Safety, Radiation Protection, Environmental Safety and work protectionEnsure all required records including training, equipment calibration, work package documentation, procedure data sheets, weld documents, etc. are tracked and maintained as part of normal administrationMay be required to execute matters such as; training coordination, discipline, performance assessments, interviewing, training, administering applicable collective agreements and human resources policies, and provide effective recommendations to manager regarding staffMay be required to check and approve time sheets, contractor invoices, and vacation requestsKnowledge and SkillsDemonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, including technical report writingDemonstrates the Bruce Power Behaviours of “Uncompromising High Standards, Drives For Accountability and Results, Displays Good Judgement, Communicates Effectively, Knows the Business and Achieve Success Together”Show commitment to and understanding of the Human Performance (HU) Program, consistently promoting the Core 4 HU ToolsStrong leadership competence as well as technical skillsDemonstrated knowledge of technical subjects (electricity, mechanics, instrumentation, heat and thermodynamics, drafting)Well developed time management abilities and communication skillsDemonstrates Leadership and understanding of our number one value safety firstKnowledge of EPSCA, BTU, PWU and Society collective agreements is considered an asset but not required.Education This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a Grade XII education with two years technical training or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related industryA Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Apprenticeship or equivalent Training is preferredExperienceRequires on-the-job experience, such as might be gained in a power plant, refinery or chemical plant, associated with the installation, and plant modifications to become thoroughly familiar with assembly processes, testing and trouble-shooting procedures, modification and repair techniques.Requires familiarity with the use of manufacturers' equipment manuals and specifications to understand the operating, installation characteristics of equipment and systems.Requires construction experience to efficiently handle unplanned trouble-shooting activities through effective utilization of existing resources. Requires experience to understand, apply, and utilize Operating Policies and Procedures, station reference plans, radiological and conventional safety procedures, regulations, legislation, work protection and Quality Assurance (QA) standards, communications tools, etc, as needed to effectively perform work function.Requires sound practical experience to understand, coach and influence mixed services personnel through the phases of planning, organizing, scheduling and execution of construction work, and to motivate same to integrate their efforts and attain optimal work performance.Multi-discipline trade experience preferred.
