The Barrie KOA is currently looking to hire in our Landscaping department. Seeking individuals who have a passion to work in the outdoors, have a strong work ethic, and are seeking an opportunity that provides individual growth. Possess a basic knowledge of landscape and garden maintenance. We will have opportunities for Landscape Team members who are able to work day shifts Monday - Friday throughout the season.

Position Summary : The Barrie KOA Landscape Team Member has the ability to provide a strong horticulture knowledge. This role includes, but is not limited to, the upkeep and maintenance of all garden beds, flower baskets and green space throughout the campground. Working in both a team environment, while also confident in their abilities to work independently while still being efficient with their time. It is understood that the Landscape Team will be required to work in all conditions throughout the summer season.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as trimmers, mowers and tractors.

  • Care for established gardens by mulching, weeding, trimming or edging around flower beds.

  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws or hedge trimmers.

  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs or hedges using shears and pruners.

  • Lawn maintenance of campground landscape and seasonal sites.

  • Watering of all hanging baskets and planted garden beds throughout the campground.

  • To assist in the maintenance of property, facilities, and general upkeep of the campground and equipment.

  • To implement daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and cleaning programs as instituted by the campground owners or manager. Examples include, but are not limited to these areas; pools, weeding, landscaping, road repairs, cleaning of buildings, garbage pick

  • up, pet playgrounds and other campground facilities and equipment.

  • Report all guest problems, requests or complaints to the owners, campground manager or supervisor and follow-up to resolve the issue if possible.

  • To oversee supply and stock of materials essential to maintenance of the gardens.

  • To complete a daily log outlining such factors as:

  • all supply needs.

  • details of all camper comments, suggestions, and complaints.

  • details of all required maintenance.

  • personal observations, ideas, suggestions.

  • To provide excellent and friendly service by being attentive, responsive and helpful to all guest needs. Greet the guests at every opportunity by demonstrating a friendly welcome and professional demeanor.

  • To present a positive impression with a well-groomed appearance, smiles and proper KOA uniform and name tag.

  • Comply with all federal and provincial safety programs by adhering to established guidelines as set out by Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as they relate to the workplace ensuring your safety, as well as that of fellow staff and campground guests.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by the owners or campground manager or supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • At least one year of previous job experience in a landscaping or outdoor labourer position.
  • Being familiar with tools and machines to be used in the position. e.i. Lawnmowers, Stihl Trimmer, leaf blower, etc.
  • Be able to be on their feet for a full shift, 8 hours or more.
  • Be flexible with their schedule. Working primarily weekdays, as business levels require.
  • Speak the English language fluently. French is an asset.
  • Great guest service skills.
  • Applicants must be able to complete mandatory training in April, prior to season start.
  • Must be able to work exclusively May - October.

Wage & Hours :

  • Wage starting at $17.55
  • Full Time hours required for summer season May - October, additional hours available for off season preparation and closure April & November.

Physical Requirements :

  • Able to do heavy lifting such as large bags of grass seed, soil or mulch.
  • Long periods of standing, bending and kneeling.
  • Spending a large amount of time outside in different weather conditions.
  • Must be able to safely operate various maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Demonstration of a positive attitude with guests, management and team members.
  • Attention to detail when dealing with camper issues.
