Reporting to the Commercial Lines Supervisor – Ontario, the Intermediate Underwriter is responsible for the development and successful execution of broker and territory-level business plans for an assigned group of brokers in accordance with the regional commercial business plan for profitability growth, retention, and service standards. The Intermediate Underwriter will be required to visit brokers who represent Optimum Insurance Company in order to promote and present the Company’s commercial products and generate profitable growth and retention. They will be required to make risk selection decisions within an assigned level of authority and develop productive and successful working relationships with assigned brokers. The position also requires the Intermediate underwriter to coach and mentor team members to develop their technical underwriting knowledge and to enhance broker relationships. The successful candidate will need to apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits. The successful candidate will also be required to maintain an awareness of market trends, price levels, legal requirements, and case law applicable to commercial underwriting along with the ability to negotiate optimally to develop and maintain a profitable book of business.We are looking to hire someone to work in our North Bay office. While we support a hybrid work model which preserves the balance between working from home and in-person interactions, we will require a full in-office presence for a minimum of the initial probationary period for the position.In order to meet the requirements of this position, the candidate must have a post-secondary education or comparable previous office experience. They must also have a minimum of three (3) years of progressive growth in underwriting commercial property and casualty mid-market accounts. Completion of the CIP designation with the Insurance Institute of Canada is an asset. The candidate should be recognized for their good communication skills (verbal and written), efficient keyboarding, and attention to detail.
