Civil Construction Surveyor

Overview:

Our reputable client is looking for a Civil Construction Surveyor, to ensure precise pipe laying and alignment with expertise in surveying and grading. Proficiency in GPS technology, data recording, and a minimum of two years of field experience are essential, with additional certifications beneficial. The role demands travel readiness and effective communication in a team-focused environment.

Must Haves:

  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to safety
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, including listening, speaking, and directing with clear hand signals
  • Strong mathematical aptitude for maintaining pipe grade and understanding civil drawings
  • Proficient in using levelling instruments for grade and pipe alignment
  • Skilled in recording detailed layout and as-built information, with the ability to mark up drawings for changes
  • Experience with GPS technology and machine grade control equipment for data setup and input
  • Knowledgeable in laying out pipe alignments, curbs, and stakes, and understanding slope staking
  • Flexibility to travel as required with valid driver's license
  • At least 5 years of experience working in civil construction as a Grademan, or a minimum of 2 years as a surveyor in pipe laying or grading operations

Nice to Haves:

  • WHMIS certification
  • Certified for confined space entry
  • Fall Protection certification holder
  • Training in Underground Disturbance Level II Supervision
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software
  • Experience with machine control data preparation, modelling, and maintenance

Responsibilities:

  • Operate with a team-first mindset, ensuring project objectives and timelines are met with a high degree of quality
  • Maintain a calm presence in high-pressure environments to facilitate effective decision-making
  • Collaborate closely with heavy equipment operators to navigate around worksites safely, recognizing and adapting to blind spots and safety signals
  • Ensure precise grading and alignment of pipes, from trench to manhole, according to civil engineering drawings
  • Record and maintain accurate layout and as-built data, amending drawings as necessary to reflect real-time changes
  • Utilize GPS and machine control systems for accurate site data collection and layout tasks
  • Conduct accurate layout of pipe alignments and related structures according to project specifications
  • Engage in regular travel to project sites within the lower mainland, prepared for varying worksite conditions
  • Continuously display expertise in civil construction surveying, contributing to the team's knowledge base and maintaining high standards of workmanship
