Level II Bindery Machine Operator 2023-75 | TFJ-997

Friesens is currently accepting applications for Level II Bindery Machine Operators in preparation for anticipated staffing requirements. NOC: 94152 The Level II Bindery Machine Operator will be responsible for the set up of the machine as well as the packing instructions of product produced as recorded in the electronic job docket instructions. They will work in collaboration with the Lead Operator and the support team. The Level II Bindery Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the machine in a manner that will ensure high-quality products to the prescribed quantity. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting basic machine performance, making adjustments and calling additional resources as required. Level II Encaser Operator: The Level II Encaser Operator is responsible for the setup of the backgluer area of the Encaser on the hard cover book line. The encaser machine spreads the endpapers of the unbound book with glue, rounding the spine of the cover (case), aligning the cover with the unbound book, and pasting the sides of the cover to the endpapers. Together with the Lead Operator, the Level 2 Operator is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Encaser to produce a high-quality product to the prescribed quantity. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting basic machine performance, making adjustments and calling for additional maintenance resources as required. Level II Perfect Binder Operator: The Level II Perfect Binder Operator is responsible for the setup of the three-knife trimmer on the soft cover binding line. Perfect binding is the process where either flat sheets or signatures (a sheet with multiple pages printed on it) are bound together using a flexible adhesive with a wrap-around cover that creates a square-shaped spine. The Level II Operator is also responsible for the packing instructions of perfect bound books as recorded in electronic docket instructions. He/she works in collaboration with the Lead Perfect Binder Operator and support staff. Level II Multiplex Operator: The Level II Multiplex Operator is responsible for the operation of the sewing machines producing sewn book blocks from collated signatures on the Multiplex System.Together with the Lead Operator, the Level II Operator is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the multiplex system to produce a high-quality product to the prescribed quantity. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting basic machine performance, making adjustments and calling for additional resources as required. Job Requirements: - High School diploma, GED or equivalent - Minimum 1 year experience as a book binding machine operator is a requirement - Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance experience - Effective English use and comprehension - Digital Literacy (Microsoft Office, keyboarding skills) - Essential Math Skills (Metric and Imperial measurements, problem solving, conversion charts, etc) - Effective use of production related documents to accomplish job tasks - Ability to detect, isolate and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery, equipment and product - Organization, prioritizing, time and stress management skills - Able to operate required machinery/equipment in a safe and responsible manner - Ability to operate and use small tools - Continuous learning/improvement mindset - Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating self-management capabilities - Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times - Excellent manual dexterity - Willingness to work overtime as needed - Ability to work 12-hour shifts - Must be willing to work at all Friesens facilities as needed - Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures - Forklift training and operation may be required Job Duties & Responsibilities: - Work and communicate effectively with the lead operator, production support staff, and managers - Handle machine set up and assembly for the production run. As Level 2 Encaser Operator, the operator is responsible for the setup of the backgluer area of the Encaser or hard cover book line.
