Job Description The Acute Pain Service Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director, Surgery and Ambulatory Care, and the Corporate Chief of Anesthesia. The successful candidate will promote clinical excellence, quality patient-centred care and high professional standards. The role is autonomous. Accountabilities: Conducting clinical daily rounds including pain assessment and management of post-surgical patients and non-surgical acute pain consults abiding by the practice standards for a Nurse Practitioner set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (2016) Work within a collaborative practice model with anaesthesiologists and other physicians Manage the daily workload of the acute pain service in collaboration with the clinical nurse specialist and anaesthesiologist Work with clinical nurse educators to provide orientation and ongoing educational support regarding all aspects of the acute pain service and post-operative pain management to the surgical services clinical staff Qualifications Current extended class registration RN (EC) required with CNO Masters degree in nursing Active memberships in relevant professional organizations (e.g. NPAO, RNAO) Demonstrated core competencies as described in the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Core Competency Framework Knowledge and clinical expertise in care of the acute post-surgical patients and pain management nursing Demonstrated highly developed critical thinking skills Knowledge of diversity when performing health assessments, making diagnoses and providing therapeutic management Identifies and creates a positive learning environment and creating resources, as needed for patients, families and staff Effectively manages sensitive issues with patients, families and the health care team Facilitates learning and acts as a mentor for inter-professional team members Excellent interpersonal skills with all team members and well developed conflict management skills Collaborates with members of the health care team to promote and guide continuous quality improvement initiatives at the individual, organizational and systems levels Advocates for and participates in creating an organizational environment that supports safe client care, collaborative practice and professional growth Program planning and evaluation methodology skills Participates in quality assurance audits of the acute pain service Proficiency in computer skills and data management required (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word and Access) Demonstrated continual learner Fluent in English (comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking) Knowledge of another language is considered an asset Eligible for appointment with an affiliated school of nursing Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration Additional Information DURATION: Approximately twelve (12) months or until the previous incumbent returns.
