People and Culture Advisor

Job Summary: As a People and Culture Advisor, you will support the business by building and maintaining trusted relationships with designated client groups and contributing to the achievement of Porter’s People and Culture strategies and objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partners with the business to provide effective and timely advice, recommendations, and resolutions to designated client groups on various employee relations matters while adhering to policies, procedures, governing laws, standards and regulations
  • Champions People and Culture initiatives, ensuring consistency and alignment across the organization
  • Builds trusting relationships with leaders through consultation and coaching, while sourcing solutions and tools to support their individual and team engagement initiatives
  • Collaborates with leaders and union representatives to provide expertise and support in resolving workplace disputes and grievances
  • Supports leaders with sensitive workplace issues and conducts thorough workplace investigations into complex team member relations issues in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and practices at Porter, determining resolutions, and developing recommendations for future prevention
  • Provides leaders with coaching and advice on career development, succession planning, performance and attendance management, recruitment, workforce planning, and other people and culture practices
  • Prepares for the successful rollouts of annual programs including the team member engagement survey and year-end performance reviews
  • Partners with the Talent Acquisition team support our people and recruitment strategies
  • Partners with our Absence Management team to support work accommodations and medical leave processes, ensuring the successful re-integration of team members into the workplace
  • Promotes Porter Wellness resources across the organization
  • Liaise with the People and Culture leadership team to proactively enhance, develop and implement people and culture processes
  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) which includes reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote Porter’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy

Qualifications:

  • University Degree/Certificate in Human Resources Management or equivalent education
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a Human Resources environment, preferably with experience in a service environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to liaise with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Service delivery mindset with strong business acumen
  • Conceptual thinker with strong negotiation, mediation, and with good situational judgement in the context of conflict resolution
  • Strong understanding of people and culture functions, processes, best practices, and the Canada Labour Code
  • Inspire trust at all levels of the organization
  • Facilitate solutions to complex problems and situations
  • Ability to travel within Canada and the US for business, as required
