Communicable Disease Control Nurse Coordinator

Detailed Overview Coordinates and maintains the Communicable Disease Program for Population & Public Health Services within Fraser Health, including identifying problem areas and follow-up of communicable disease concerns and issues. Acts as a resource person to all levels of staff in matters related to communicable disease control. Identifies training needs of staff and develops and implements training programs. Responsibilities Maintains the Communicable Disease Program and related systems through surveillance, data collection, analysis, reporting and documentation. Maintains and updates relevant information on laboratory confirmed cases within, and external to, the public health sector. Provides consultation and guidance to staff and others on clinical issues and approaches. Participates in coordinating response activities on major and complex disease outbreaks. Participates in the reporting of communicable disease with respect to recommendations for future control/avoidance measures. Identifies training needs of nursing staff, develops and implements training programs; conducts training and orientation sessions. Participates in the development, evaluation and implementation of quality assurance standards for the program; maintains related records and statistics and prepares reports as required. Participates with the Communicable Disease Control Team and others with respect to issues such as the review and development of regional policies, procedures and protocols, in accordance with local and provincial regulatory requirements and the requirements of Disease Control Centres. Maintains current knowledge on preventive health programs and communicable disease issues/trends, both clinically and epidemiologically. Participates and represents Fraser Health Population & Public Health and Communicable Disease Control on provincial, national and international initiatives. Works as a representative, in partnership with BCCDC on provincial immunization education and promotion activities. Develops, implements and evaluates the FH Immunization Education program for staff and partner agencies. Participates in coordinating, maintaining and implementing the Surveillance of Immunization monitoring programs for Fraser Health. Participates in the surveillance of immunization and communicable disease monitoring programs for Fraser Health. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three years recent related public health nursing clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including a working knowledge of local and provincial Communicable Disease Regulations and relevant policies, procedures and protocols OR a combination of two years' experience as above and one year of nursing experience in a leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid Class V B.C. Driver's licence and have access to personal vehicle for business related purposes. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated proficiency around CD/Immunization practice in the designated clinical area. Demonstrated proficiency in the application of word-processing software programs, including database management and presentation. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to make group presentations and to work within a team environment. Ability to teach and to provide leadership to project teams and staff. Ability to deal effectively with others. Demonstrated working knowledge of research methodology and analysis. Ability to plan, implement, organize and problem solve. Ability to operate related equipment. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
