Position Overview

Manager, Mortgage Underwriting leads a group of underwriting professionals, ensuring adjudication of mortgage applications are in accordance with the 5 C’s (Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Character, Conditions). Assessing risk and ensuring all applications adhere to both quality and service standards remain the overarching focus for this role through coaching and mentoring their respective team. The role is an important part of the company’s operation and is expected to partner with the business to responsibly growth the company’s portfolio within the context of the business objectives

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a highly capable and engaged workforce of credit professionals to ensure applications are decided upon within the company’s risk appetite and established SLA’s
  • Regularly coach and develop direct reports and support employee development across the unit/company.
  • Meet all financial operating requirements including behaving in a fiscally responsible manner and in compliance with all internal operating control standards
  • Monitor productivity and workflow to ensure optimal team efficiency and quality in adjudicating prospect applications
  • Refine, deliver and promote underwriting processes and best practices in support of a culture of service excellence
  • Appropriately actions post funding review and Loan Review findings at the Underwriter and Mortgage Officer level to ensure effective decision processes are maintained
  • Support the Directors’ implementation/maintenance of underwriting standards and guidelines for existing and new products.
  • Review, analyze and verify mortgage applications for completeness, accuracy, suitability, and risk to ensure compliance with underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Adhere to compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements
  • File Unusual Transaction Reports as applicable to fulfil individual employee obligations to detect and deter financial crimes activity
  • Effectively manage Underwriters’ delegated lending authority to ensure authority is consistent with capability and capacity
  • Ensure team members are adhering to assigned Service Level Agreements for each underwriting and fulfillment process.
  • Effectively partner with the Sales BDMs and other Operations groups to ensure an effective and efficient application and funding process

What We Offer

Home Trust's hiring range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000, annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We base our salary ranges on localized market data ensuring competitive compensation. In addition to base salary, we offer annual bonus dependent on individual, team and company performance, and an 8% (match) RRSP contribution.

Related Experience

  • 5-7 years leading a team within mortgage lending
  • In depth understanding of residential mortgage products developed through experiences within a similar environment
  • Significant experience in reviewing residential mortgage applications
