The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. The Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division of TIR is responsible for inspection and compliance of all vehicles that use our highways.

We inspire public confidence in the public passenger transportation service through education and enforcement of Acts and Regulations that pertain to all road users in our province.

About Our Opportunity : Primary Accountabilities : The incumbent will also respond to a high-volume of public/carrier inquiries and complaints related to the Motor Vehicle Act, Vehicle Inspection Regulations and supply information to the inspectors in the field for their response. The incumbent may assist VTI management with other administrative duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience : Four years of related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Related experience includes proficiency in typing, extensive knowledge in spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Must be able to work independently with mínimal supervision; possess problem-solving and decision-making skills, highly developed planning and organizational skills, be an excellent communicator and must have strong public relations skills and client service experience.

A knowledge of Nova Scotia Government Policies and Acts and Regulations associated with the Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division will be considered an asset.

You are a self-motivated individual who works both independently with mínimal supervision and participates fully as an effective team player. Consistently you maintain confidentiality in all you do.

You possess problem solving abilities and can analyze and present information in a clear, concise manner and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential when responding to client inquiries.

You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service; particularly when assisting clients who are experiencing a stressful situation.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency : An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies include, but are not limited to:

  • A completed related bachelors degree
  • A completed related diploma and two (2) years of experience

Working Conditions : Work is performed primarily in an open office environment which may be stressful due to nature of work, and interactions with others is continual and interruptive.

This role requires the completion of repetitive tasks on a regular basis; good hand dexterity for continual phone and computer use is beneficial. This role also requires a high level of visual and mental concentration.

There is a high degree of pressure present while maintaining accuracy and balancing the volume of work and meeting deadlines.

Salary Range : $1,675.62 - $1,874.80 Bi-Weekly
