Role:Bridges & Structures Employees work outside assisting with replacing or repairing worn or broken components and fabrication, and erection of new components for timber, concrete and steel railway structures, including bridges and culverts. This position leads to advanced positions within Bridges & Structures, such as Steel Bridge Worker and / or Carpenter. Critical performance areas include the following:Fabrication, Assembly and Erection of Timber, Concrete and Steel Railway Bridge ComponentsUse of various common and specialized hand toolsUse of various air, hydraulic and electric toolsPreparation and minor maintenance of tools for assigned workRemoval and replacement of defective bridge, culvert and other structural componentsLoading/unloading, sorting, shoveling and distribution of various materialsClean-up after work completionEmployment Requirements: Ability to follow strict guidelines regarding safe work practices in a safety sensitive environmentCapable of climbing and working at heights using fall protection equipmentPhysical labour experience is a definite asset including lifting, occasionally heavy liftingAbility to lift from 50 lbs to 85 lbsCapable of working various shifts, including night, weekend & holidaysRequired to work away from home sometimes for extended periods of timeCompletion of high school or a general equivalency diploma (GED)Valid Driver's License Working Conditions: Employees work in a unionized environment as crew members to perform various maintenance, repair and replacement tasks, in a safety sensitive environment around heavy moving equipment outdoors in all weather conditions.Exposure to harsh outdoor weather conditions (heat and cold) and noisy conditions.Training: CN offers classroom and on-the-job training, as well as competitive wages and health benefits package.
