TMX Group is headquartered in Toronto and operates offices across North America (Montréal, Calgary, Vancouver and New York), as well as in key international markets including London, Beijing and Singapore.Department OverviewTMX Group's Office of the General Counsel (GCO) is a high-performing legal team with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver and London (U.K.) and is responsible for providing TMX Group and its subsidiaries with the full suite of legal services they need to support and develop their businesses, including with respect to corporate, securities, governance, regulatory, commercial and intellectual property law.Description of Role Provide legal and regulatory support to equity trading, equites market data, and capital formation businessesAct as key legal adviser for new initiatives led by our equities exchange trading (TSX, TSXV, Alpha) and data (Datalinx) businessesBe actively involved in all aspects of the board and regulatory approval process for changes to equities trading and data rules, fee changes and new product offeringsPartner with the business to achieve desired regulatory outcomesCultivate strong working relationships with the staff of key regulatorsSupport the businesses' compliance with their regulatory obligations, including requirements relevant to their status as recognized exchangesAdvise Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and other leaders on new and changing regulatory requirementsMonitor securities industry and related proposed legal and policy developments in Canada and other jurisdictionsAssist with advocacy in areas of regulatory reform, including drafting responses to requests for comment on proposals that may affect TMX Group businesses, with input from the relevant stakeholdersRequirementsMember of law society in any province of Canada in good standing4-8 years legal experience in securities, corporate and/or commercial with a reputable company or top tier law firmKnowledge of regulatory and operational aspects of equities trading and real-time market data is an assetInterest in equities trading, capital markets, new regulatory developments and financial innovationStrong advocacy skills, and the ability to succinctly explain complex matters to audiences with varying degrees of background informationUnderstands how to work effectively within a broader enterprise with overarching prioritiesContributes to a culture of high performance, accountability and inclusivityStrong attention to detail, but also the ability to remain focused on the big pictureRecognizes the importance of understanding client needs and giving intelligent, thoughtful and practical adviceAbility to take on responsibilities autonomously and to manage numerous priorities optimallyThrive in constantly changing environmentSelf-starter but also team-orientedExcellent analytical and communication skillsResult-oriented and commercially astuteIn the market for…Excitement - Explore emerging technology and innovation, as well as ventures and digital finance that shape the future of global markets!
