THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a People & Culture Manager to join a leading educational childcare provider based in Edmonton. Reporting into the President, this is a key position within the management team and is responsible for all human resource activities throughout multiple operations. This is a great role if you have the passion and experience overseeing payroll, recruitment and onboarding, implementing programs and initiatives, policy development, and impacting and building a strong corporate culture.

Kepler Academy offers full-time early learning and childcare services for children between the ages of 16 weeks and 6 years, and out-of-school care for children between 6 and 12 years. They are currently based in Edmonton but are expanding to other sites across the province.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the corporate mission, vision and values, living by them in all areas of your day.
  • Handle all aspects of HR complaints, including but not limited to wrongful dismissal, ensuring fair and lawful resolution processes are followed with sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Support a portfolio of companies under different areas of industry and align consistent practices across them.
  • Manage full cycle recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, training and benefits.
  • Build and maintain relationships between operations and Human Resources to create understanding and adoption of HR strategies, processes, policies and initiatives.
  • Implement HR projects such as reward and recognition, talent attraction and retention.
  • Develop programs to improve engagement, using tools such as Employee Engagement and Pulse Surveys to identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide support and direction to management for employee relationship management including disciplinary process and resolution of employee issues and concerns.
  • Provide management with information and support with HR related legislation, inclusive of Human Rights Act, Privacy Act, Employment Standards, and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Manage WCB claims and leave of absences inclusive of modified duties and accommodation requests.
  • Prepare and present reports to the President.
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management processes.
  • HRIS management, strong knowledge of Dayforce to continue implementation and training of additional modules.
  • Dayforce Payroll and Time & Attendance knowledge to overlook bi-weekly payroll and ensure compliance.
  • Develop and update human resources policies and programs to align with changes in operational and employee needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Resources Management.
  • 7+ years’ experience working in a Generalist type role, with HR management experience.
  • Completed or working towards a CHRP designation.
  • Payroll experience required, Payroll Certification an asset.
  • Experience with Dayforce required, including familiarity with other Human Resource Management Systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including ability to effectively communicate and adapt to each audience.
  • Ability to prioritize, with strong organization skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
  • In-depth knowledge of labour law and HR best practices.
  • Class 5 license and own transportation with ability to travel throughout Edmonton and area as required. This position based out of West Edmonton Corporate office.
