Sea Forest Macro Algae, Ltd. (SFMA) is a marine plant grower and harvester that produces its own line of kelp and seaweed-based food and agricultural products.

Overview: Responsibilities :

  • Oversee the development of on-shore & grow-out sites for species cultivation._
  • Compile, catalogue & critically analyze historical data pertaining to growth rates & geographic_
  • variation for the purpose of species/sub-species selection._
  • Coordinate selection and maintenance of brood stock for seed reproduction._
  • Ensure that hatchery biosecurity remains uncompromised, as per company policy._
  • Follow sanitation schedules for all hatchery equipment. Prevent cross-contamination between_
  • seeding vessels._
  • Assist the Harvest Operations Manager in obtaining regular sea-site water samples for all growout_
  • sites. Analyze results and make recommendations to increase species vitality and harvest_
  • yield._
  • Make weekly visits to all grow-out sites for infrastructure and species inspections. Log findings_
  • and measure trends for weekly operations reporting._
  • Record any climatic variations, weather changes and any noteworthy events in the marine_
  • environment that may adversely affect sea site chemistry - temperature swings, freshwater_
  • interactions, petroleum spills, wastewater discharge, species & epiphyte densities, etc. Report_
  • to Manager immediately and develop contingencies plans._
  • Maintain financial records for operations. Develop purchasing procedures._
  • Assist the Operations Manager with regular audits of hatchery & operations processes to_
  • identify time/safety/QA efficiencies._
  • Establish Quality Assurance protocols for all end products._
  • Identify HACCP thresholds for all species and ensure that parameters are met from seeding to_
  • harvest to delivery._
  • Forge positive relationships with suppliers & distributors that may visit the Sea Forest hatchery_
  • or processing facility._
  • Establish inventory & quality control methods. Regularly update SOP’s and preventative_
  • maintenance scheduling._
  • Make recommendations for the streamlining of harvesting & processing methods._
  • Maintain critical spares inventory._
  • Perform weekly and monthly checks on all equipment, to include pumps, chillers, lighting,_
  • boilers, ventilation, power tools, auxiliary power supply and all critical systems on harvest_
  • vessels. Maintain certification, regulatory compliance and annual inspection requirements._
  • Work with Harvest Operations Manager to develop an SMS for all facilities & sites._
  • Operate sea-going vessels for the purpose of harvesting, inspections & maintenance within DFO_
  • Management Zones 18, 19, 20._
  • Champion HSEQ safety policies and safe work procedures among staff in all work environments._
  • Communicate any concerns and provide immediate solutions._
  • Produce weekly operations reports to the Management Team. Take ownership of efficiencies_
  • for hatchery and harvest operations._
  • Write & upload summarized species profile reports._
  • Maintain harvest & hatchery logs; regularly update Share Point or internal server._
  • Maintain logs for facilities sanitation & equipment maintenance._
  • Contribute to the Operations Worklist via app-driven software. Produce work orders._
  • Log deficiencies via the Fiix program & action remedies via the Harvest Ops Manager._
  • Establish marketing programs for new species introduction to emerging markets._
  • Investigate & develop unique and effective packaging & storage solutions for all wholesale_
  • species products._
  • Assist with document creation, report writing, contact management, presentations & support_
  • material, as requested & required._
  • Create content for and assist with social platform infiltration._

Job Types : Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $57,600.00-$60,000.00 per year
