UTSC Management is a world leader in providing business education that is heavily influenced by experiential learning and internationalization. In 2019, UTSC Management partnered with the African Impact Initiative to launch the African Impact Challenge (AIC). In early 2020, AIC and UTSC Management launched the first cohort in Ghana, partnering with local universities and industry stakeholders to deliver capacity-building, and to offer incubation to entrepreneurs. In 2021, The BRIDGE and AIC joined the University of Toronto’s (U of T’s) Health Entrepreneurship Pillar, alongside two other accelerators at U of T and a network of 10 universities across sub-Saharan Africa to support the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative. To date, AIC has extended their training to multiple cohorts in Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa, providing skills development, mentorship, networking, and other resources to over 5,000 entrepreneurs across Africa. Your opportunity: We are seeking a dedicated Program Manager, African Entrepreneurship & Partnerships, to support the African Impact Challenge (AIC), a joint partnership between the African Impact Initiative (AII) and The BRIDGE, within UTSC Management. This role will represent the organization to forge partnerships and identify fundraising opportunities to support the delivery of capacity building and the successful launch of African-based start-ups to drive social development and long-term economic growth in their communities. Reporting to the Assistant Director, External Relations, and with leadership input from the Industry Partnership, Innovation, and WIL Lead (IPIWIL Lead), the Program Manager will be responsible for leading the planning, program delivery, and project management efforts required for the successful execution and future growth of the AIC while ensuring compliance with budgetary, legal, and regulatory requirements locally, and in specific countries across Africa. The incumbent will play a vital role in nurturing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders locally and on the African continent, including the Executive Management Committee andthe Board of Directors, and liaising with the Office of the Vice-President International (OVPI) at U of T on the overall Africa Strategy and The International Strategic Plan (TISP).. Your responsibilities will include: Provides planning, program and project management support for the African Impact Challenge by developing and enhancing operational and administrative processes and procedures Builds and cultivates relationships with academic partners and agencies across Africa and North America to advance strategic objectives Contributes to the development of marketing/communications content to promote programs, events and/or initiatives Overseeing data collection, analysis and reporting Works with stakeholder to identify and promote fundraising opportunities and/or campaigns Leads project initiatives by developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for projects Supports executing strategy by collaborating with various stakeholders across U of T’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, OVPI, and African-based post-secondary partners, to successfully achieve project milestones related to African entrepreneurship through the delivery of the African Impact Challenge Provides guidance and direction to a small group in a limited area, including responsibility for scheduling and/or work flow Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Minimum 6-7 years of related experience in a project management role, preferably in a nonprofit organization Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa, preferably in the entrepreneurship and innovation space Experience fostering social development and economic growth through entrepreneurship and innovation Supervisory or team lead experience with the ability to oversee scheduling and workflow for a small group Fundraising experience with demonstrable success in developing and promoting fundraising opportunities and/or campaigns Experience monitoring project/program budgets, ensuring financial resources are used efficiently and effectively in accordance with established policies and best practices Strong relationship budling skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with executive management, boards of directors, and external partners Highly developed presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to exercise strong problem-solving skills and ability to deal with a variety of responsibilities in a high-volume environment Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of respectful and collegial learning and working environment Ability to travel to Africa a few times per year in support of business development and program delivery interests.
