Kit Public Affairs is seeking an experienced government relations consultant to join the growing Public Affairs practice in Ottawa.

As Senior Consultant, you’ll get to lead on a mix of exciting, multi-sector client files such as science and technology, skilled trades, public safety, health, gender equality, Indigenous affairs, finance, and much more. This position is for someone who’s a self-starter with a passion for government relations and stakeholder engagement, as well as a commitment to client service and business development.

This is a full-time, contract position based in Ottawa, Ontario. You’ll get the flexibility of working from our office downtown, and from home.

Responsibilities

The Senior Consultant will service Kit PA’s growing client base and help drive our business growth. In this role you will:

  • Serve as a day-to-day, client-facing manager for accounts across multiple industry sectors.
  • Oversee the day-to-day work of the Account Coordinator supporting your client accounts.
  • Develop and execute federal and provincial government relations strategies as well as stakeholder engagement and advocacy campaigns.
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including government officials at the political and departmental levels and other relevant parties, to build relationships and advocate for clients' interests.
  • Stay informed on the political, economic and social issues that affect our clients; able to propose ideas to advance client goals.
  • Policy analysis, assessing proposed legislation and regulations to determine their potential impact on our clients.
  • Contribute to new business development initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of legislative, regulatory, and political developments that may impact clients. Analyze and interpret how these changes could affect strategies and advise accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Five to seven years experience in government relations, public affairs and strategic communications within a consulting, government, nonprofit, or corporate service setting.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field such as Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Law, or Communications.
  • Proven track record of successfully advocating for policy change, influencing legislation, and managing government relationships.
  • Experience organizing and executing lobby days and reception events on the Hill.
  • Excellent writer and an articulate and persuasive communicator.
  • Networker with an entrepreneurial spirit who likes the challenge of business development.
  • True team player who is eager to collaborate and help the firm achieve its business objectives.
  • Bilingualism is an asset but not a requirement.
