Senior Estimator

Hays are currently working with an established general contractor in Edmonton. They are seeking a Senior Estimator to join there team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

Your new role

As the Senior Estimator you will be responsible for completing bids, tendering process, negotiating prices, managing trade relationships and other pre-construction related duties. The projects you'll be bidding on will be a variety of builds: healthcare, retail, multifamily, institutional, hospitality, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the end-to-end preparation of full estimates from $10M to $250M in value, identifying inherent risks and opportunities
  • Reviews special proposal requirements and provides recommendations.
  • Organizes bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines.
  • Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine project requirements and identify associated risk factors. Monitors published addendums that may impact the project scope.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Estimator, as needed, to complete the final bid submission to the client.
  • Interprets isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings, as well as specifications.
  • Prepares quantity take-offs, reports, and presentations.
  • Establishes a critical path schedule with milestone dates and completion timelines to meet project contract completion dates.
  • Develops work plans, execution methodologies, and other necessary project documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technology Diploma in Construction or Engineering
  • P.Eng. or CET designation preferred
  • Must have: Institutional experience: Schools or University new builds
  • Quantity Surveyor or Red Seal Estimator a bonus
  • 10+ years of experience in estimating in commercial and institutional projects setting.
  • Experience estimating multiple self-perform work disciplines and overall knowledge of each.
  • Ability to work in a busy team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Strong computer skills; especially well versed with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
