Description The Community Ministries Youth Worker provides holistic support and leadership to a limited range of community-based youth programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values and standards.Please confirm that you meet the Canada Summer Jobs 2024 program participant criteria.Hours: Temporary Summer Job35 hours/weekMay 13th to August 23rd 2024 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to The Salvation ArmyEnsure that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal exampleProvide spiritual guidance and use every opportunity to pray with and share the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with program participants, staff and volunteers, endeavouring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking participants to the church family and church programs where possible)Promote community-based programs internally and externally as requiredFoster positive relationships with participants, volunteers, staff, ministry partners and community agenciesParticipate in program strategy developmentAssist in the development and implementation of community-based summer and fall programs to make a positive impact on the community (may include, but not limited to Play Café, Just Show Up, Children and Youth program initiatives, Brave, Summer Chill Zone, Backpack program etc.)Attend two weeklong children’s camps as a Camp Leader at Camp Sunrise (Holiday Camp C: July 22 – 26 and Teen Camp: August 6 – 9) and assist the Community Ministries Coordinator with planning and logistics, and the supervision of campers going from Abbotsford to Camp Sunrise on the Sunshine Coast and returning home.Plan and lead activities for camper orientation events and post camp follow-up celebration eventsPerform various administrative duties which include documentation, camper registration, tracking statistics and assisting other program staff/volunteers as needed.Ensure participant safety, and create a positive and welcoming environmentPerform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must state that he/she meets the Canada Summer Jobs 2024 program participant criteria.Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years old. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. International students are not eligible participants.International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.Applicants must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check and complete Abuse Prevention Training. Applicants should genuinely enjoy interacting with others and leading activities for a diverse range of participants to create meaningful experiences, possess excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, possess basic computer skills, and be able to work cooperatively in a team setting with minimal supervision.Additional Qualifications: Emergency First Aid with CPR C and AED certificationAbility to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivationExperience planning and leading group activities (games, sports, crafts, etc.)Experience working with children with behaviour & cognitive challenges an asset.
