Description Position at VON Canada (Ontario) Requisition DetailsEmployment Status: Temporary, Part TimeAnticipated End Date:August 2024Number of Hours Bi-Weekly: 70Work Schedule: DaysOn Call: NoTravel: NoJob Summary: Assist with the implementation of therapeutic holistic activities for individual participants and for groups within a team care model, consistent with VON mission statement, program operational goals and individual participant goals.Responsibilities:Assist with implementation of programme in conjunction with team membersEnsure that present and future volunteers are incorporated in the planning of activities with the clients, based on client and program needs/goalsWorks in collaboration with the Site ADP Coordinator and Coordinator of Volunteers to ensure that volunteers are integral to program deliveryExplore diverse resources in the community that will assist with program planningEnsure that the program/activities are well documented for other staff members to implementContribute to the planning of monthly calendars of special events/programming and submit when requestedContribute to the creation and maintenance of an atmosphere of warmth, caring, personal interest, resulting in a level of client participation that is appropriate and positive, as reflected by participant and family caregiver satisfactionOther duties as assignedQualifications:This position is a Canada Summer Jobs position open to students who meet the eligibility requirements of the program. To be eligible to participate in the CSJ initiative, individuals must:Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employmentHave been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic yearBe a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection ActBe legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulationsOther Qualifications:In the process of obtaining education in Gerontology, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services or equivalent educationDemonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating a therapeutic, holistic program plan, meeting the identified needs of each client is an assetCertification in First Aid and CPR level C is an assetExperience with computer programs (word processing, electronic communication) is an assetGood communication and active listening skillsAbility to take direction, as well as to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teamCapacity to remain calm in unexpected situationsA current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employmentA Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be requiredAbility to speak French is an asset in French Designated areasWork Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced Environment; Attention to Detail; Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; Fine hand movements VON Canada is committed to embracing and celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (EDI) as fundamental to living out our values of Respect, Compassion, and Excellence in all that we do.
