The City of Abbotsford’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is looking for a seasoned professional to join their team as an Urban Forest Planner. Reporting to the Parks Planning Manager, you will support the shortterm and longterm planning and development of programs and strategies to support the City’s Urban Forest Strategy. In this challenging role, you will use your knowledge, experience and visual communication skills to support the City’s urban forest, primarily through the City’s Urban Forest Strategy, tree regulations and programs that apply to development projects and to private properties. You will also provide information for the public and coordinate with other departments. The work involves policy analysis and development, strategic planning, the preparation of various types of reports and studies, public presentation and the provision of technical advice to customers inside and outside the organization. The incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action within department policies and recognized guidelines of the profession and discusses unusual problems or policy matters with the manager. In order to be considered for this position you must have: Degree in Forestry, Earth Sciences, Landscape Architecture or other related discipline. Five years of urban forestry experience, including at least one year of planning or development related work. International Society of Arboriculture Certification Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
