Port Coquitlam Fire and Emergency Services invites interested qualified candidates to apply for the position of Deputy Fire Chief of Operations. Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, this position forms part of the Department’s senior management team in providing leadership, direction and assistance to the Fire Chief in organizing and administering the operations of the Fire and Emergency Department. Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Assists the Fire Chief in the administration of the Fire Department and acts for the Fire Chief as required Acts as Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner as designated by the Fire Chief Provides leadership and assistance to the Suppression Captains in managing, directing and controlling the activities of staff, including the setting of priorities, staff assignments, duties, responsibilities, work plans, programs and objectives Manages staff performance, including mentoring, coaching and providing corrective action Determines staffing and resource requirements to provide for effective and efficient service delivery Develops and recommends long and short-term fiscal planning, including resource allocations for existing and new programs Plans, recommends and manages annual operating budget for assigned area, ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources that support the delivery of services and reports variances and/or significant budget matters to the Fire Chief The successful candidate for this position will have: Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary education in a related field Considerable firefighting experience with a strong background in operational experience at a senior level, including experience providing emergency scene incident command Considerable supervisory experience as a Fire Officer or higher or an equivalent combination of training and experience Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement from the Province of British Columbia Completion of Fire Officer Level 1, 2, and 3 Completion of Incident Safety Officer (FS185 or equivalent) Extensive knowledge of fire suppression techniques, equipment, and apparatus Preferred Education, Training:Post-secondary education at a recognized educational institution in any of the following areas is preferred: Fire Officer Level 4 Fire Executive Management Leadership Business Administration Emergency Management The Deputy Fire Chief has emergency duties which make their availability on short notice of paramount importance. Therefore, the successful applicant must reside within the primary living boundaries of 30 kilometers from the boundaries of the City of Port Coquitlam. Why should you consider working for us?
