As defined by the NBCP, the Sr. Manager, Pharmacy is a pharmacist licensed in New Brunswick who accepts the responsibility, legally and professionally, for the operation of the pharmacy licensed in their name, in conformance with all laws and administrative regulations pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and distribution of prescription drugs. The Sr. Manager, Pharmacy is personally in full and actual charge of the pharmacy.The Sr. Manager, Pharmacy ensures the central fill services are executed professionally. The Sr. Manager, Pharmacy is responsible for aligning and maintaining effective business processes and workflows in a highly automated, industrial setting with the pre-established performance metrics. Working in collaboration with various public and private sector representatives, the Sr. Manager, Pharmacy ensures ongoing excellence in client-centered, safety-driven customer service. The Sr. Manager, Pharmacy provides leadership and expertise in all aspects of central fill pharmacy services.Section A - Specific ResponsibilitiesManages and optimizes customer’s relationships and business requirements, expectations and deliverables in collaboration with the Supply Solutions team.Maintains effective communication and working relationships with clients at all levels of the organization and business contacts.Ensures the operation of the Central Fill pharmacy is in compliance with applicable provincial and federal regulations, standards of practice, code of ethics and regulatory practice directives and policies. Responsible for maintenance of the operations policy and procedure manual. This involves reviewing and amending, when deemed necessary, joint policies and procedures with the pharmacy managers of the originating pharmacy (clients).Ensures Central Fill Operations policies and procedures are followed by all staff and tracks as appropriate.Responsible for management and adherence of Central Fill Pharmacy Agreements between the central and originating pharmacies.Develops and ensures implementation and maintenance of a continuous quality assurance program.Manages and supervises central fill daily production. Collaborates with the Director, Supply Chain to establish and manage operations budget.Provides work direction, resolves problems, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.In collaboration with the Business Director, recruits/interviews and hires pharmacy support personnel.Coordinates orientation and training of new personnel.Manages pharmacy personnel which includes scheduling, training and providing development and performance reviews.Facilitates staff meetings.Verifies drug and prescription orders using computer screens/bar codes and visual means. Conducts random audit of orders to ensure quality standards.Documents all information required, i.e. production and verification records, for Quality Control purposes.Assists the pharmacy personnel in processing drug and prescription orders using automated technology and manual assembly when required.Assists pharmacy personnel with drug order inquiries regarding stock and tracking issues.Assists pharmacy personnel in sorting prescriptions to ensure delivery to proper locations and assists with receiving products from wholesaler.Assists pharmacy personnel in conducting inventory audit counts.Assists the pharmacy personnel, as needed, to assure productivity and operational efficiencies.Ensures the security and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control.Oversees the organization, storage of inventory and consumables as per regulations.Manages the processing, ordering and inventory information systems.Maintains central fill drug formulary lists to meet the needs of the clients’ requirements.Completes annual performance appraisal process in compliance with McKesson’s policy.Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing department objectives and develop and implements improved procedures and practices. Analyses workforce demands, staffing criteria and applies to operational schedule.Provides regular feedback to the Business Director regarding quality, operational, technical and/or process issues. Recommends corrective actions or follow up as required. Engages other resources as needed.Section B - General ResponsibilitiesEntertains good stakeholder relations with pharmacy governing bodies.Demonstrates sound judgment in accordance with the professional standards and guidelines issued by the NBCP and other relevant professional guidelines and standards.Competently performs the duties of a registered pharmacist as required.Participates in quality, self-review activities to improve personal performance and to identify personal and professional developmental requirements.Adheres to quality, operational and productivity standards.Adheres to company policies, shared principles and quality management guidelines.Demonstrates and promotes compliance with all program specific performance metrics.Section C - Position RequirementsA minimum undergraduate degree in Pharmacy with 5+ years of experience in pharmacy services.Holds an active NBCP license.In good standing with NBCP and in compliance with all applicable laws pertaining to the practice.Ability to manage a team, normally acquired through at least 3-5 years of Pharmacy management experience is required.Understanding of hospital pharmacy operations.Minimum of 3-5 years of hospital automation experience.Experience in launching new pharmacy programs and/or opening new pharmacy is an asset.Familiarity with unit-dose packaging automation benefits, limitations and interdependencies.Clear understanding on regulatory issues, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements and the Model Standards of Practice for Pharmacists and Regulated Pharmacy Technicians.Proficient in both official languages (French/English) an asset.Excellent leadership skills.Ability to plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate operational activities in a complex and busy environment.Consistently acts in a professional manner and serves as a role model for staff.Excellent organizational skills with ability to set priorities and creatively solve problems.Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated success in working effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.Ability to function is a fast-paced, continually changing and results-oriented environment.Good understanding of Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel).#LI-AR2At McKesson, we care about the well-being of the patients and communities we serve, and that starts with caring for our people.
