Department/Unit:Vascular GF/SaratogaWork Shift:Day (United States of America)Vascular Tech II - SaratogaPart Time - 2 Days a Week (Tues/Thurs - one week) (Thrus/Fri - following week) Under general guidance and supervision, the vascular technologist performs a variety of noninvasive diagnostic procedures to detect vascular disease. Constant supervision is not required. Must be able to report findings of exams to medical staff. Must perform clinical assessment of patients and provide basic patient care while testing is being performed. Assumes responsibility to complete all necessary daily laboratory procedures. Technologist levels II and III assists with training of students, residents and staff when necessary.Responsibilities:• Performs patient assessment of signs and symptoms including documentation of patient’s medical and surgical history, medications, and presenting symptoms.• Conducts vascular testing including but not limited to duplex ultrasound examinations, pulse volume recordings, segmental Doppler pressure measurements, and treadmill stress studies.• Performs vascular testing at various on-site locations (vascular clinic/lab, nursing units, ER, OR, etc.) and is responsible for the transportation of lab equipment to and from the various locations.• Performs vascular testing at various locations off site from the primary work location and drives to these satellite locations using personal transportation.• Responsible for loading and unloading equipment (ultrasound, PVR, etc.) from the vascular laboratory vehicle and driving to various satellite locations as needed.• Responsible for accurate and reproducible data collection, insuring that laboratory policies and protocols are followed.• Assists with the transportation of patients to and from vascular lab when necessary.• Reports findings of examination, in a timely manner, to physicians, hospital staff and others.• Completes necessary documentation of tests including reports for hospital and laboratory records, billing forms, and laboratory logs. • Assists with general clerical duties of the laboratory including filing, copying and scheduling appointments, as needed.• Helps maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the laboratory facilities. • Responsible for storage and routing of supplies and recommends the purchase of additional supplies as needed.• Assists with the performance of clinical research protocols, including data collection and retrieval.• Performs other related duties as required.Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree preferred• Successful completion of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography registry examination in both Vascular Technology and Vascular Ultrasound Principles, thus attaining the certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT). • Candidates with an Associate’s degree may be considered depending on other qualifications.• A minimum of five years experience in a vascular laboratory or two years experience in a vascular laboratory plus five years experience in a general ultrasound department.Key Skills:• Able to effectively communicate on a wide range of issues in an age-appropriate manner with patients, staff and visitors.• Must be able to work well with others to accomplish work goals.
