Health Care Assistant Instructor(s) - General Posting

Duties:VIU is seeking instructors to deliver courses within the Health Care Assistant program at our Nanaimo, Cowichan and tiwsemawtxw campuses for the 2024-2025 academic year. This posting will also be used to fill term positions in HCA Partnership Pathways initiative and cost-recovery program offerings. HCAPP and cost-recovery employment is subject to funding and enrollment.Teach in clinical, lab, and/or classroom settings, including preparation, delivery, and evaluation. Support student learning through the integration and evaluation of student progress in theory and practice. Participate in instructional advising with students. Contribute to departmental and faculty meetings and program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.An overview of the program can be found .Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited institution, with current practicing BCCNM membership in good standing; a minimum of five years recent gerontological nursing experience; responsive to a diverse student population; a solid understanding of the scope and role of health care assistants in the health care system. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology. Proof of registration in a course or proof of completion of course about knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.Candidates with lesser qualifications (RN/LPN with current practicing BCCNM membership in good standing) may be considered for instruction of lab/clinical courses.Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in nursing or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; familiar with practice settings in Central Vancouver Island, including private and public residential care and acute care; familiarity with learning management systems (D2L) in an educational setting.
