Duties:The Kinesiology program at Vancouver Island University (VIU) offers a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree. The department is searching for a dynamic faculty member who is committed to teaching and learning excellence with a strong interest in student engagement and success. Candidates must be willing to teach a variety of courses in all years of the program, deliver labs, assess student progress, and support students in all aspects of their studies. Collegiality, flexibility, and enthusiasm for the art and science of human movement are desired characteristics.We are seeking a candidate with expertise in exercise physiology with a focus on adaptations to exercise. An ideal candidate would have experience teaching exercise prescription and strength and conditioning. The ability to teach human physiology and introductory nutrition is also preferred. Membership and certification with a well-recognized exercise physiology/prescription organization(s) is preferred (e.g., Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology). The department has a desire for a faculty member who can promote community engagement for student learning (e.g., undergraduate research, guest speakers, experiential learning).Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Experience teaching nutrition and human physiology are also assets.Evidence of an ability to be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.Willingness and ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment while also engaging in post-secondary service.
