The Role

The Project Controls Team Lead is part of the controls team within the PMO, which provides the organization with project-related data for effective decision-making. The Team Lead is responsible for managing the financial and analytical deliverables for the project teams and senior leadership and providing mentoring and training to a team of project accountants and analysts. In addition to their team lead responsibilities, the Team Lead will support continuous improvement initiatives within project financial and performance measurement domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, training, and development to the control team's members.
  • Manage the team's performance, including mentoring and coaching direct reports and applying best practices.
  • Promote continuous improvement in data collection and efficiency, particularly in using existing tools (Epicor, etc.) more effectively.
  • Utilize analytical tools and techniques to gather, analyze and interpret project data and provide insights and recommendations to various stakeholders to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate and interface with internal stakeholders to develop cross-functional workflows, ensuring the data inputs to project controls reporting are accurate and available when required.
  • Oversee the project initiation process.
  • Work in partnership with Finance to prepare monthly and annually consolidated project and operating financial plans and budgets.
  • Ensure the quality of the team’s deliverables through review and validation and implement quality assurance methodologies to maintain high work quality.
  • Attends monthly project reviews and tracks actions related to fiscal performance.
  • Prepares Project Change Request (PCR) financial analysis as required.
  • Supports long-range financial planning, including business plans and un-booked project forecasts.
  • Single point accountability for Accountants and Analysts on the Controls team and the financial accuracy of the project budget files.
  • Decision-making authority within the PA team's confines and the projects' financial boundaries.
  • Signing authority as per the Company’s signing authority matrix.

You Bring

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. CPA is considered an asset.
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in a project controls environment, with 2 – 3 leading a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; highly accurate; detail and deadline-oriented; advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel; ability to prioritize the work; sound knowledge of accounting principles and ERP software; Epicor would be an asset.
  • Other: Familiarity with project concepts, contracts, and change order documents.
