Reporting to the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Associate is responsible for assisting with the operations of the store. The Associate will provide support to the volunteers, be the primary contact for incoming donations, driving to donation pick up locations and providing front-line customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Communicate the story of The Mustard Seed’s ministry and develop rapport, through intentional interactions with volunteers, and donors
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and gratitude with all donors, volunteers and visitors
  • Receive donations at the Thrift Store drop off location and organize appropriately
  • Assist and lead volunteers (groups and individuals) with sorting and other duties as required
  • Attending to the upkeep and cleanliness of the stock area and its perimeter and ensure a safe work place for donors and volunteers.
  • Work with individuals in volunteer roles with diverse needs and abilities, assisting their questions,
  • Inspect and process items according to quality standards
  • Conduct regular pick up of donations at off-site locations
  • Assist team with frontline customer service such as cashier duties
  • Adhere to The Mustard Seed’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, Safe TALK, Nonviolence) and attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Strong communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to support front-line programs.
  • Possess strong initiative to actively seek out tasks and improve service.
  • A team player, who works collaboratively and has a ‘teachable spirit.’
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team and direct volunteer groups as required
  • A demonstrated passion to be involved in ending homelessness in British Columbia is essential
  • Strong desire to work with a marginalized and vulnerable population
  • Experience working in a volunteer-based organization is considered an asset.
  • Experience in warehouse management is considered an asset.
  • 1-2 years of retail experience considered an asset
  • Ability to drive is required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Moderate mental effort: periods of high-volume workload with significant people interaction (staff, guests, and volunteers
  • Physical effort is high and must be able to lift 50lbs routinely to load, stand on feet for extended periods of time and sort merchandise as required

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
