Trenchless Practice Lead - Canada East

Aldea Engineering Services Ltd. provides expertise in design and construction management of tunnels and underground structures. Headquartered in the Toronto area. Aldea Engineering is seeking a Trenchless Practice Lead for the Toronto, Ontario area.

The duties to be performed by Employee for Employer are generally described as follows:

  • Project Management – including development of proposals, cost estimates and schedules for trenchless and rehabilitation projects.
  • Business Development – including locating trenchless and rehabilitation project leads, discussion of teaming and leveraging existing and new client relationships to secure an ongoing stream of new business to sustain and grow the business in Canada.
  • Lead teams and produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Geotechnical engineering associated with the trenchless design and construction of municipal water and wastewater conveyance facilities
  • Engineering Calculations – produce structural and geotechnical engineering calculations as required in support of trenchless design including support of excavation (shafts & tunnels – including connection details and complex structures), precast concrete segmental liners, cast-in-place concrete structures, and adherence to all local and national codes of practice for concrete, steel, and timber design. Independent development of Technical Memoranda, Letters, and Reports.
  • Prepare construction plans and specifications, structural/geotechnical calculations and design reports, and technical memoranda
  • Increase Aldea’s visibility with internal and external professionals by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified industry activities.

Field based assignments may include weekday, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area of study required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Substantial professional project expertise in the planning, design and construction of a variety of trenchless projects
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent knowledge of a wide range of trenchless construction methods

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience with a minimum of 10 years in Trenchless or Underground Projects
  • Master’s Degree or PhD Degree in Civil, Geological/Geotechnical, Structural Engineering or related field
  • Experience with delivering trenchless solutions for projects in soft ground and hard rock 
  • Experience with the inspection and design of rehabilitation measures for existing water/sewer tunnels and pipes
  • Substantial professional project expertise in the planning, design and construction of trenchless projects
  • Experience working on trenchless projects in the Greater Toronto Area
  • Training and experience in project management
  • Experience in proposal writing and job scoping
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills
  • Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, a thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
  • Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
