Pacific Coast Distribution is a growing, Langley-based, transportation, warehouse and logistics provider that is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Dispatch department.

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the routing and scheduling of our daily trucking services, to meet customer requirements, focusing on maximizing payload and productivity in a safe and effective manner.

This position resides in Langley, British Columbia . Due unavailability of public transit in our area, it is mandatory that a successful candidate owns a personal vehicle.

Job Responsibilities:

Dispatch

  • Efficiently plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers in real-time, through computer-based dispatch/satellite systems for on-time pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Lead the planning, coordination and oversight of the routing and scheduling of Drivers to achieve maximum truck utilization.
  • Assure compliance with time schedules applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the drivers have the proper instructions to perform their duties safely, and listen to all driver concerns and act on them appropriately.
  • Ensure that schedules are carried out in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate the daily assignment of company and contracted resources to maximize equipment productivity and payload while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Manage the daily operations of the dispatch office:
  • Make necessary adjustments for road closures, overloads, lateness and related problems.
  • Communicate regularly with the drivers to assist and manage implications caused by truck problems, lateness and accidents.
  • Communicate with the customer to report compliance to daily targets as well as course of action should deviation to plans occur.
  • Communicate with the customers to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues, concerns and questions regarding trucking services, customer site and/or driver issues.
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations participate in identifying hazards.
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols, and established performance metrics.
  • Continuously survey the existing trucking program for safety and cost improvement opportunities and advises the manager of ways to improve current systems.
  • Confer and coordinate with Maintenance Shop Manager regarding repairs and preventative maintenance schedules and timelines.
  • Schedule and coordinate required Driver training and orientation.

Operations Support

  • Support the Trucking Operations management team to ensure all Drivers know and adhere to company policy/regulations, and timely and accurate processing of shipments
  • Analyze pricing trends for equipment, geography and commodities to ensure optimal pricing is provided to customers with the aim to maximize profitability
  • Develop tools that will help the team quoting freight to customers in a timely manner
  • Apply Project Management in compliance with Lean methodologies to ensure controlled and structured implementations, as well as assisting in planning and execution of project tasks
  • Drive end-to-end process improvement that can be objectively measured through KPIs and service metrics
  • Provide material for operational forecasts and financial budgets to support strategic and operational decision-making on implications of equipment and human resource utilization

Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Previous experience in a Dispatcher role considered an asset.
  • Education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree or diploma in Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management program from a recognized school, plus a minimum of five (5) years recent related work experience.
  • Strong geographical knowledge the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, and Alberta.
  • Computer skills including Truck Mate (Dispatch system), Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word; and Business Intelligence skills to analyze operational data.
  • Experience with Transportation regulations and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of truck equipment and when to use specific types of trailers and trucks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team, while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Dynamic problem-solver adept at turning difficult situations around to strengthen customer relationships

Salary Range - $60,000-$75,000
