Detailed Function/Job summarySCOR life and health Canada seeks a leader for its underwriting and claims team who will collaborate with others within SCOR to partner with Canadian insurers to develop solutions for the benefit of Canadians.The successful candidate will be responsible to manage and develop a cohesive team. He/She is a recognized industry exeprt and will be responsible to nurture SCOR’s brand in the market. He/She is familiar with the trends in claims and underwriting and the use of technology as he/she will be responsible to develop the future of underwriting at SCOR. Job ResponsibilitiesPeople management : Manage a team of underwriters and claims individuals that focus on production, research & development and engaged in audits, trainings and client communication. Monitor work-related production and performance to ensure the team maintains corporate goals and client expectations. Responsible to evaluate your team’s performance, develop compensation recommendations and support their career growth. Support growth of team members. Provide guidance regarding the resolution of underwriting problems generated by the day-to-day caseload. Have oversight of processes, systems, controls and tools for underwriting and claims services. Collaborate with others within SCOR (locally and globally) Thought leadership : Be a viewed as an expert and go to resource to their peers in the insurance industry Nurture SCOR’s visibility and presence in the industry as a “knowledge expert” via writing, speaking, trainings, committees, etc. Have oversight of SCOR’s underwriting policy and guidelines in the Canadian market. Be underwriting lead supporting pricing projects (eg RFPs) and client initiatives. Guide team in research and development projects. Be the Canadian underwriting expert on global projects and committees Client focused / mindset : Interact with client companies to develop customized programs (both SGLA and client generated), revise underwriting requirements and help provide solutions to highly sensitive underwriting-related issues. Listen to client's needs as well as to respectfully explain SCOR's position Build, nurture and strengthen client relationships with their peers, their teams and others within the industry Serve as a mentor to the team during their interactions/negotiations with client companies. Vision for the future of underwriting : Stay informed and understand underwriting trends in the Canada and other markets. Stay informed and understand the current and potential role of technology in underwriting. Develop a vision for the future of underwriting.Requirements in experience, competency, education and qualifications Ten (10) or more years of insurance/reinsurance underwriting experience Three (3) or more years of management experience within a life underwriting department Expert in individual life and critical illness insurance underwriting and knowledge in claims In-depth knowledge of life and living benefit insurance industry products, distribution and services Demonstrate behaviors such as partnership, transparency, authenticity, innovative problem solver, passionate, Ability to bring the best from people and to manage change. Strategic mindset paired with a focus delivery / execution Open minded / curiosity to learn and challenge the status quo, as much for personal growth as to make team better Self-motivated and autonomous Excellent verbal and written communication skills Bilingual: English and French is an asset Required Education A baccalaureate degree at the minimum; advanced degrees would be preferable. Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) designations or equivalent
