POSITION:                           OUTREACH WORKER HOUR OF WORK:              FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK) REPORTS TO:     WELLNESS DIRECTOR   POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Worker to join our Wellness team. As an Outreach Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting and empowering our community members by fostering positive relationships, providing essential services, and promoting overall well-being. This role will involve connecting with individuals, families, and groups to address their unique needs and contribute to the enhancement of community life.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Community Engagement: Build strong, trusting relationships with community members, including elders, families, youth, and individuals, to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate assistance and support during crises or emergencies, such as mental health crises, family disputes, or natural disasters, by connecting individuals with appropriate services and resources. Support Services: Provide support and assistance to community members by identifying available resources, government programs, and social services that can help address their specific needs, such as healthcare, education, housing, and employment opportunities. Cultural Preservation: Respect and promote the cultural values, traditions, and heritage of the First Nation community, ensuring that outreach efforts are culturally sensitive and aligned with community values. Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for community members, assisting them in navigating bureaucratic systems, addressing systemic issues, and facilitating access to services and resources. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other community organizations, government agencies, and service providers to coordinate and maximize outreach efforts, ensuring a comprehensive network of support for the community. Education and Awareness: Conduct outreach to raise awareness about important issues affecting the community, such as wellness initiatives and social justice. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Experience in community outreach, social work or a related field Strong cultural competency and understanding of Tsawout traditions, history, and contemporary issues. Empathy, compassion, and excellent communication skills to establish trust and rapport with community members of diverse backgrounds and age groups. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Knowledge of available social services, government programs, and resources relevant to the Tsawout community. Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities within the community. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively. A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment May represent Tsawout First Nation externally in a manner that enhances Tsawout First Nation’s credibility and reputation.   OTHER FACTORS Culture/Language Respect for and working knowledge of the Tsawout culture is required.
