Account Manager Tourism (Business Development)

We’re looking for a passionate, energetic, service-oriented, organized and collaborative team player to join us on the Sales & Marketing Team as an Account Manager (BDM) for the travel industry.

The role will see you presenting unique destinations to the B2B travel space – targeting new business, increasing destination exposure, developing new product as well as driving sales to the destinations and partners. The Account Manager (BDM) will manage, grow and develop relationships with tour operators, travel agents, airlines, OTAs, and other affinity groups. This position is responsible for expanding these channels, training travel agents, and maintaining extensive knowledge of all represented destinations.

The role is also responsible for developing and managing cooperative advertising partnerships with tourism organizations and travel-related companies. The role must manage multiple priorities while navigating a complex, multi-stakeholder environment to deliver against objectives. The successful candidate will have strong organizational & interpersonal skills, as well as creative thinking and analytical evaluation abilities.

Areas of Primary Responsibility and Focus:

  • Manage existing and develop new sales opportunities for the destination within the tour and travel distribution channels including Canadian airlines, tour operators, wholesalers and the retail travel market segments. Identify and cultivate new travel agencies or agents that can cost effectively grow product distribution. Manage existing relationships with key accounts.
  • Manage the travel agent distribution channel and maintain scalable destination specialist training programs for market segments that promote more travel bookings.
  • Promote destination products and experiences that can be packaged as attractive itineraries for integration into tour operator programs, for sale and promotion, via retail travel and direct consumer market segments.
  • Maintain and communicate via online, electronic or printed collateral materials the various regional destination products or services information to all tour and travel related companies.
  • Develop and conduct tour and travel business development activities including familiarization tours, product training, and special industry events that foster participation and engagement to the area’s destination tourism partners.
  • Utilize key industry trade shows and marketing programs to advance destination awareness, market penetration and generate sales leads for area tourism partners.
  • Work with communications and marketing teams to develop copy and collateral materials to promote the destination and develop marketing and coop programs for area partners within the tour and travel market segments.
  • Maintain current market analysis to include destination room night reporting.
  • Submit a weekly activity report detailing work assignments, goals and completed tasks.
  • Organize and execute roadshows, sales missions and other events required by clients.
  • Participate and host familiarization trips as required.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisors.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree program required, preferably in business, marketing, travel and tourism or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in travel industry
  • Demonstrated successful sales history in the travel industry. Strong understanding of the travel trade industry.
  • An understanding of the sales process, including commission structures, marketing plans, incentives.
  • Competency to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, set priorities and achieve results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Positive, professional, "can do" attitude and ability to excel in fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday. Participation at trade shows or events may take place during some week-ends during the year, but quite limited.

Work Location: Hybrid (office + in person sales calls to travel trade)
