PAVING SUPERVISOR

Taranis Contracting Group Ltd. is an established Thunder Bay based company with over 29 years of experience in road building, heavy civil construction, construction material production, environmental remediation and demolition projects throughout Northwestern Ontario. We are currently seeking a Paving Superintendent to join our team.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the General Manager and Operations Manager, where applicable, in the day to day duties of in paving project administration
  • Responsible to oversee and manage specific day to day project operations including the strategic planning and operation of various paving sites
  • Effectively understand and comply with budget, project schedule and project specifications in order to adequately instruct the foremen and subcontractors in the performance of the work
  • Responsible to oversee paving efforts to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule
  • Provide on-site and detailed technical support to project staff
  • Direct and maintain discipline and morale of the project staff
  • Promote and enforce company health and safety policies with employees and subcontractors
  • Participate in daily tailgate safety meetings
  • Conduct accident investigations and prepare documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Union agreements, where applicable
  • Responsible for continuously expanding and updating professional knowledge and honing training skills in order to enhance individual and team innovation and productivity
  • Mentor and train identified employees for advancement
  • Perform additional assignments and assume additional responsibilities as requested by General or Operations Manager
  • Responsible for a team of employees to complete specific jobs on time and to company and customer satisfaction
  • Direct and train asphalt laydown crewmembers on the correct processes, construction methods and equipment operating procedures, including maintenance to ensure work is completed on time
  • Manage day to day operations of the jobsite, including asphalt quantity and availability management
  • Accurate asphalt quantity calculations and material ordering
  • Order appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner to ensure availability at the appropriate time in the project
  • Responsible for providing overall supervision, coordination and scheduling of paving crew and activities on project site
  • Complete and implement traffic protection plans
  • Resolve line and grade conflicts between plans and existing conditions with inspectors and/or owner
  • Track, review and sign time sheets of employees

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, specification, schedule and cost reports
  • 10 years of progressive superintendent experience in road building, asphalt paving and civil infrastructure projects
  • Experience in managing all aspects of road building, asphalt paving and civil infrastructure projects
  • Ability, when needed, to step in and work alongside field staff to assist with paving
  • Previous experience working on MTO and Municipal projects would be an asset
  • Results driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities
