The Schools

These two Hutterite Colony Schools are filled with fun and gracious individuals. The Teachers and program assistants in each school work closely with the students and their families to teach the Alberta Curriculum alongside respecting Hutterite cultural beliefs.

These two schools run from 9 am to 3:30 pm daily using the calendar timetable of Pembina Hills School Division while observing Hutterite holidays.

Pibroch Colony School is a K-9 school located 13 km north of Westlock, Alberta in the Hutterite Colony of Pibroch. Sunny Bend Colony School is also a K-9 school located 46 km northwest of Westlock, Alberta in the Hutterite Colony of Sunny Bend.

The Position

The Associate Principal for these Colony Schools will be supported by an engaging, dedicated team of professionals and community including school council, school staff, the Superintendent and Senior Administration. This position will be supervised by the Principal of Pembina North Community School.

Qualifications : Permanent Alberta Teacher Certification

Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of a professional learning community

The ability to work effectively with diverse students and parent groups

Strong evidence of instructional leadership

Previous Principal and/or Associate Principal experience is a preference

A Master of Education degree or a plan to pursue their Master of Education degree is preferred

Understanding of or experience in Hutterite teachings and culture is ideal

Experience working with English as a Second Language learners would be an asset

Have a student first focus and a belief that all children can learn and succeed

Have a proven effective teaching and/or lead teacher experience

Be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities

Communicate a clear and focused mission that is shared and inspiring

Establish a climate of high expectations for success

Commit to frequent monitoring of student and staff progress

Be comfortable with timetabling and scheduling

Be able to maintain and create positive home-school relations

Be a “team player” and a contributing member of the Superintendent’s educational team

Be able to motivate and inspire others

Promote and use technology as a teaching tool

Contribute to the school and community

Value and understand the importance of the Board’s Education Plan, School Education Plan, Professional Learning Communities, and Assessment for and of Learning.
