Automation Specialist (On site & Hybrid)

QCA is looking for an Automation Specialist who provides automation solutions to our industrial based clients in a manner that is client-driven and responsive. The Automation Specialist will undertake control system design and programming for our clients. The work will be determined according to client parameters, needs and expectations. The work will be completed in the QCA office in North Vancouver or in the field at the customer’s location as required (primarily located in North Vancouver).

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design control systems for industrial applications

• Design control system changes to existing systems as needed

• Write technical documentation to support design activities and document work plans and work performed

• Design software systems for industrial applications

• Design software system changes to existing systems as needed

• Document software designs on a suitable platform

• Create automation programming for PLC, HMI, Historian, VFD, PC, and other automation systems that may be required

• Create code for database solutions and other information technology platforms

• Perform FAT testing in the office or at client site to a documented test plan

• Perform commissioning services at the client site as needed as per the commissioning schedule which will require work to be completed after hours, on weekends, and on statutory holidays from time to time

• Communicate effectively with the client about project progress in a manner that is consistent with the project goals and QCA’s best interest

• Travel to client sites in other cities to perform work as required

• Manage time allocations for task efficiently, meet deadlines for tasks as needed, and give feedback to project managers

• Provide time estimates to management for work that will be performed

• Enter work hours and comments into the time sheet program every week, on time, as per management deadlines

 

Education and Experience

• 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience; degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution

• 3 to 5 years experience in PLC programming preferred Rockwell

• Good understanding of networking and Switches an asset

• Wonderware HMI Experience

• Flexible, able to work on night shift or on-call

• Strong technical documentation writing skills

• Experience working on medium and large-scale projects

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
