POSITION OVERVIEW:Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting for a Sr. Assembly Supervisor to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). The Senior Assembly Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the assembly operations within Startec Compression & Process Ltd. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Senior Assembly Supervisor’s role will involve managing a team of assembly technicians, coordinating production schedules, ensuring quality standards are met, and optimizing assembly processes to improve efficiency. This role will play a key role in maintaining a smooth and productive assembly department while fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):Production Planning & Coordination Collaborate with the shop production planning team to develop production schedules for gas compression and process equipment packages.Create, monitor, and maintain production schedules, adjusting them based on progress as necessary to meet customer requirements and deadlines.Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement, warehouse, and QA/QC, to ensure timely availability of materials and components.Manage third party contractors’ production and schedules.Process Optimization Identify opportunities to improve assembly processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance overall efficiency.Analyze production data, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements to optimize productivity and reduce waste.Recommend and implement the use of automation or technology solutions to streamline assembly operations.Equipment Maintenance & Upkeep Coordinate with the maintenance department to report inspection findings and ensuring proper maintenance and availability of assembly equipment.Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns and facilitate their timely repair or replacement.Monitor and manage inventory of assembly supplies and materials.TEAM LEADERSHIP (Weighting 15%)Team Leadership Lead and supervise a team of assembly technicians (welding, pipefitting, etc.), providing direction, guidance, and support.Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement for all team members. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and employee development.Training & Development Identify training needs and provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of all assembly team members.Cross-train team members to improve flexibility and versatility within the assembly department.Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in assembly operations.COMPLIANCE (Weighting 15%)Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies within the assembly department.Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to safe work practices.Investigate and report any workplace incidents or accidents and implement preventive measures.Quality Control & Assurance Establish and enforce quality control standards and procedures to ensure that assembled products meet or exceed customer expectations.Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address any quality issues.Collaborate with the quality assurance team to implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement in assembly processes.COLLABORATION & REPORTING (Weighting 15%)Assembly Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate documentation of assembly processes, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and assembly records.Generate reports on production metrics/performance, including challenges, productivity, improvement initiatives, quality, and adherence to schedules.Provide regular updates and reports to management on assembly department performance and key issues.Collaborate with team members, other supervisors/managers, and various stakeholders to ensure communication channels stay open for smooth coordination between departments.TECHNICAL SKILLS:Fabrication Processes: Strong knowledge and understanding of various fabrication processes, such as welding, cutting, bending, and assembling metal components.Blueprint Reading: Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate assembly and alignment of fabricated parts.Quality Assurance: Familiarity with quality control/assurance procedures and techniques specific to fabrication, including dimensional checks, weld inspections, and material testing.Equipment Operation: Ability to operate and troubleshoot fabrication equipment and machinery, such as welding machines, cutting tools, and bending machines.Welding Techniques: Proficiency in various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, or stick welding, and the ability to ensure proper weld quality, penetration, and structural integrity.Material Knowledge: Understanding of different types of metals, alloys, and materials commonly used in fabrication, including their properties, characteristics, and compatibility.Safety Regulations: Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices specific to fabrication processes, such as proper handling of hazardous materials, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and equipment safety protocols.Equipment Maintenance: Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and upkeep, including routine inspections, lubrication, and cleaning to ensure optimal performance and longevity.Measurement and Calibration: Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures, to accurately measure and verify dimensions during fabrication processes.Documentation and Reporting: Ability to generate and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to fabrication activities, including production logs, inspection reports, and material inventories.Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computer software and tools for fabrication-related tasks, such as computer-aided design (CAD) software, productivity tracking systems, and inventory management software.PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:Leadership: Strong leadership skills are necessary to guide and motivate team, set expectations, and drive performance in a fast-paced fabrication shop environment.Communication: Excellent communication skills are vital for effectively conveying instructions, providing feedback, and coordinating with other teams or departments involved in the fabrication process.Teamwork: Collaborating and fostering a spirit of teamwork among team members, other stakeholders within the fabrication shop is crucial for smooth operations and achieving production targets.Problem-solving: The ability to identify and resolve issues or challenges that arise during the assembly process is essential to maintain productivity and meet project deadlines.Time Management: Effective time management skills help prioritize tasks, manage workflow, and ensure that assembly projects are completed within specified timelines.Adaptability: Being adaptable to changing priorities, production demands, and unexpected circumstances is important in a dynamic fabrication shop environment. Will also consider other industry experience such as: mod yards, power generation and refineries.8+ years supervisory and leadership experience is preferred.Ability to read and interpret all red-line mark ups and blueprints (Isometrics, P&ID's, G.A.’s) Working knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code as it pertains to our industry.Strong knowledge of assembly/fabrication/production processes, techniques, and quality control methods.Excellent leadership and team management skills.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Proficiency in using computer systems and software for production tracking and reporting.Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.We offer competitive wages, training, flexible, dynamic, and exciting work environment.
